yeah you can either f**k about doing that or use a bog standard mitrebox scribe the internals andhalf the amount of mitres you cut. as for the externals i've never seen one that bad that a bit of filling doesnt cover.

i scribe every time now, doesn't matter if the walls are out of square and there's faffing about with the filler.

as so you would run a straight length but up to a wall then folling piece would be scribed into it so a 4 wall room would have 2 straight lengths flowed by 2 lengths scribed at each end?

no, in a square room i'd start with 1 full length, then scribe the internal of the second length. leaving the opposite end straight again, the third length the same and the last length a mitre of both ends

got ya... now how do i scribe lol.. im guessing u use a off cut miter and draw it on them cut it with a small saw?

ask tony to send you the pictures he did before, he did post them but it was that long ago itll be impossible to find, you basically cut it like a normal mitre then cut it back with a pad saw or a coping saw. its hard to describe

Magic miter is poo I have one and the tollerance is shite!

I either cut 2x 1foot lengths and miter them then go round and mark all teh corners and then ping a line and that works a treat for me....

Never thought about scribing a corner in.... might have a play next week

I have scribed skirting in the past that always looks nice

Danny

its hard to explain and understand without coving in front of you. ill have a mooch and see if i can find the pics tony put up.

so u dont use that triangle Danny? i have one but find i have 2 fill every cornor alot! looking at Tony's photos he just cuts a 45 on a block then ? not at an angle like the triangle makes you do? just cut it and shave the back of and butt it up to the sq peace.

the triangle cuts it exactly the same as the mitre box does. you have to sit the cove in the mitrebox at the right angle, if its not then the corners will be miles out. use either the triangle or a proper coving mitre box, b&q do them for a few quid.

ah thanks so i do the same but cut the back out a bit so it sits onto new coving :-) i wonder if it would work with posher moldings that are made of soft materials.

yup I use the triangle

if you cut 2 lengths and miter them take them to every corner in the room and then roll them into the corner till the miters are perfect then mark with a pencil on the wall you know when you have cut the miter and slung the glue on it will fit

Ah, i see your logic there danny (i was thinking about it for 5 mins) I've only ever used the metal cove mitre. I just cut my cove as i go along and if a bit needs scribed, i have a sharp stanley to hand. But i like your method! ;)
