I'm quoting a job where the bloke wants to use limelite backing plaster and is enquiring about bond it too. I've not used either before, usually just your bog standard materials. Apart from being bloody expensive does anyone have any useful knowledge for me? And how much better is bondit to normal PVA? Is it really worth it?

Thanks

Jess , limelite is good stuff as is dr-coat by bg , if the guy wants it then he has to pay for it , bondit is good stuff but expensive try plas prime or blue grit , loads of info on here about it
ps done any wallcrete yet x

I have used tons of Limelite. It certainly makes your skin dry and crack. I do not think you can use bond it or pva, it stops it from breathing. Try contacting the manufacturers for advice but I am sure it's a no go.

With Limelite backing do not rush it. If you do rush it it will crack all over. If you can, do a scratch coat, let set and dry for a day or two then second coat. Let the Limelite backing dry out fully before skimming. When you skim with Limelite finish it will bleb all over and will flash set. You think it will never start to go off then it's gone.

Hey thanks for that will check it out. Yeah I went on a course for wallcrete thought it was great! Not used it on a job though. Need some unwitting guinea pigs. And to buy the gear for it. Just bought a wreck of a house so all funds going into that at the mo. I can do murals too for children's bedrooms, winnie the poo and the like put again not really put enough into that. Plasterings the bread and butter but am 25 with bad trigger finger and a bad back so who knows!

I used to do murals in kids rooms also but got bored with it it was called "A room with a toon"

Thanks that's great. So what your saying is don't PVA beforehand? Just damp it down with some water maybe? And does multi go over it ok or does it have to be limelite finish?

you could use an SBR slurry over the brickwork before replastering or like previously said plasprime etc

I would stick to Limelite finish if you can. Multi will work but Limelite is a plaster with a purpose and using multi could make it not work.

ive used multi over limelite many times and it was fine but i can see what rigsby was saying about a certain product for the job.
also bondit is nice to skim over but blue grit is cheaper and just as good IMO

Thanks, the job is pretty much the whole guys house so I pale at the thought of giving him the bill for everything limelite etc. Still up to him! It's good to know that multi has worked.

use the cement based limelite an you could use an sbr slurry as a bond mate also do what rigsby says use the high impact finish then it will breath through both the coats as the job is intended

Just use dri coat. Its basically the same as the lime-lite, and is supposed to be skimmed with multi or board finish.

I don't really think the place needs the limelite to be honest but this bloke's an architect and knows all about the materials and how it should all be done etc etc. :rolleyes) Get the feeling it might be a nightmare?

If he is an architect then he should be able to specify whether you use a bonding agent or not. But you could ring the manufacturers but I think it's a no.

Limelite is not that easy to use read my previous post. If you are patient with it it will be ok, rush it and it could crack and blow.

ive used lots of limelite jess dont pva it it wont bond properly plus the backing has to cure for 24 hrs before you skim it also you cant multiple coat the backing if you put a coat on and leave that til next day then try and dub out on top it will dry then fall off as the backing seals itself the finish is like cream to use and goes miles but dont throw water at it when trowling it otherwise it goes back wet like you just put it on also its a matt finish so dont try polishing it ,its a bit of a git to use but looks good when its done

Thanks thats really helpful :-)

I hate lime light finish lol used to do the damps in it and put the whole house on inc the rewire and all the patches it stays wet for that long. Ended up having to flatten and come back in the morning to trowel up.

i must be a sadist cos i love using limelite n dri coat,
and Jess you still haven't clicked on yet have you ?

Hmmmm, thinking. I usually don't click on to much lol. Did you run the course?? I'm trying to remember your name if so (it was a while ago sorry) I wanna say dave or paul... non? Or I'm talking b*ll***s and missed something else entirely

Well it may be I'm not doing it now anyway. shitty piece of 3x2 fell on my thumb from height today and spent all day in a&e. Apparently not broken but is black and blue and swollen and don't know how i'm going to hold my hawk. Will have to fashion something. crap day
