Anyone know or remember when Aluminium darbies came out?

i had one when i started in 1973 and my gaffers had them before i started... mind you a good softwood one is good also but have to oil them ;)
 
the only thing i use a derby for now is a small strait edge ;D

wasn't alowed to use one in college,always had to dot and screed.
 
the guy i wrk with has pine feather edges. he dnt use them any more like. but they in gud nick just in his lock up, i call aladins cave ;D
 
We were working with this right old Tw.at a few years ago and he was telling us for ages how much better wooden edges are etc etc in the end he decided to bring in the edge he had had for 40 years to show us how good they are.

Heput it in the barrow hoist and told the lad to send it up but on the way up it got caught in the scaffold and with an almighty crack snapped in half ..... we were all pi.ssing ourselves lol

I stand to be corrected but i just dont remember Darbys when i was young i dont think we used them down South more of a Northern thing, i remember Scottish spreads in London in the late 70s using them.
