Hello everybody,

I am new to here and want to learn more about the trade.
I watched some videos and noticed that most pros start working in the upper right corner,
complete the upper half of the wall and then do the lower half. The only plasterer I know
personally would usually start from the center. What is your way?

Another question is about leveling of the surface. I think this is very important to get right,
because no matter how good the finish is, if the wall is "wavy", it will look bad.
I was thinking maybe a chalk line or an edge?

HIya

if your rendering or using backing coats the method is if your right handed to start at the top right and work from right to left... @essexandy goes on about it a lot....lol

If your skimming and your right handed starting from the left... some say top left but I start bottom left and pull all the way up the wall and work across and the pull the tops in...

I have worked with other plasterers (short ones) that work through the middle of the wall then pull the tops in and then the bottoms and most of teh time the sides as well....

Lots of ways to skin a cat buddy :D

But dont rely on my answers.... way way way better qualified people on here to answer this :RpS_thumbup:

No wonder you went into IT lol

I go left to right whatever im coating, why would you change just cos your using different material? If your right handed and starting from right to left would you not just be working against your hand, making it very awkward?

i always go left to right whatever aswell, but at college they tell you to go right to left when floating/rendering, never saw what difference it made..lol..

if your floating you work into yourself rather than away, working into yourself helps keep it flatter and you wont drop as much cos your working into wet material.............i think thats the reasoning behind it anyway its what i usually say when other spreads ask me why being a lefty am i working from the left when im floating or rendering

oh and skimming top right (left handed) tops then drop down and do the botties
