Ok lads in two minds what to do . Got so much work on do I take a young apprentice on or stick to looking for some one to give me hand when needed. Iv had about 3 young lads before and I think some times is it worth the hassle ?

Young boys are f**k**g useless normally (good for nonsing though) in all honesty you will just use him as a glorified labourer I suspect, he will get pissed off as will you?

the going rate for an apprentice is 3.30 hour is it ok for them just to work 16 hours a week

Very negative of me to dismiss the idea so apologies for that, I do mainly subbying for a gang. I've seen numerous apprentices and labourers come and go. The apprentices spend more time on Facebook than trying to learn, the labourers are labourers for a reason. I spent two years when I first started just mixing up and doing all the s**t. It was soul destroying and I didn't learn much. I understand you have got to start at the bottom but to keep these lads interested it's important to give them just a couple hours a day on the tools.

I've got a right un with me at the minute, he did a six week plastering course a few years back and he's been in and out of work since, we had a bit of a ding dong Wednesday I told him to get all the widows protected after four hours he'd only done four Windows and said he's was gonna start boarding I told him to f**k off and carry on what he was told to do he said he's more than a labourer and should t be doing the donkey work as he could go toe to toe with me an the other spread, should have seen his face when I told him I'd be spraying Monday the other guy would be loading the machine and he'd be ruling notching and meshing it was priceless and he said you can't do that I ain't that quick yet lol what a tit

To be honest I personally think unless you've got a youth straight out of school who wants to learn and is willing to put up with donkey work for a bit then your flogging a dead horse too many come as gimps and as soon as they learn how to take it off the hawk there capable spreads and can go and earn a grand a week

Sounds like a tit....i'd have done those 4 windows in 3 and a half hours max

I got a labourer who's just finished his diploma and he's really sound, 19 years old and works like a trooper, we happily putting a room and ceiling on a day so he's more than paying for himself.

Bit older at 19 bit more mature than a school leaver. Last two apprentices I met were about 19 though, the one lad jacked it in to follow a career in music production and the other is still working but he isn't really interested. He goes boxing 3 nights a week and does all his road work etc but he comes in absolutely knackered every morning.

The lad that went on to follow a career in music, he used to listen to rap music in his headphones and he used to do all that rapper s**t with his hands. Funny to watch, he was supposed to be learning a trade and he was just daydreaming and pretending to be Eminem. He was a pothead aswell, he used to tell me about all these government conspiracy theories and tales of corruption.

Being a bit of a t**t I can handle as I'm a t**t and proud lol, it's the constant hard time down in his luck stories that get me, I offered him £5m2 in the whole of the job plus a days day work to prep and clean he s**t himself and said what if something happens and the job takes longer I wow get any more money! Welcome to my world boy but you can go toe to toe lol, would be a different scenario if I said I'll give you ten days money but if we finish in 8 you'll still get the ten. The ducking ringtail

Yeah he sounds like knob....i like the challenge of working to a tight schedule, doesnt sound like he does....work ethic is whats wrong with 90% of people (lack of it)

You can forgive apprentices or labourers for lacking a bit in ability but like you say if the work ethic isn't there or the right attitude then they won't succeed.
