We did a house years back and customer pulled ceilings down and I.m sure it was asbestosHe reckons it’s asbestos board or somethin...hard as concrete. Never gave it a thought. They’re just cracked and presumed lath and plaster!

Think they used the ab board for fireplace etc not ceiling but could be wrong
Yeah, a bit weird, hence the question. Going back next weekend so will have a look.
Was there ever a transition from lath and plaster to asbestos to plaster board?
That could be right if I recallHe reckons it’s asbestos board or somethin...hard as concrete. Never gave it a thought. They’re just cracked and presumed lath and plaster!
If it is . If ceilings are high enough would it be cheaper to lower ceilings and leave it there.

It takes 30 40 years for you to suffer the affect from asbestos if your 50 I wouldent worry. No jokes a side many people have died from nasty stuff. The s**t is every where so stay safe. The sooner we get rid of the f**k*r from planet earth. The better it going to be for the future generations and ther healthApart from Artex, any other examples of asbestos used in ceilings. House I’m buying circa 1935 has asbestos ceilings according to neighbour.

it is called asbestos cement board, usually in 8 x 4 sheets and with a length of timber to cover the joints in the board. it is now classed as dangerous to health and will cost quite a lot to remove and dispose of.
if you wanted you could give the board a good coat of pva to keep the fibres together and over board, with screws , i would not use nails.
this material was quite often used in prefab type of buildings on ceilings and walls.
when i was an apprentice i have seen carpenters cutting these sheets with power saws, a cloud of dust would blow down the road.
Messaged kid who pulled church ceiling down. So if yours looks similar its asbestosDafuq.what wasthat?

I'd be very very surprised if asbestos boards were used in an Victorian built property.
I think the neighbour will be getting confused and is just the old asbestos in the artex usual bollox conversation.

its a 1935 property. queen victorian died in 1901. the 30s was a time of depression, this would be classed as a pre war property.
