Hi lads
Yes its as stated terracota block ... the lads i worked for were super fussy about corners, once the patching has been done and the final straight edge over them they then run a trowel upside down flush with a 90 degree angle to gently rub anytiny excess but to be honest the straight edge they use which was like a giant cad techs rule the cement comes back off like a dream ...
I was suprised at it not sucking into the block with the heat and even remixing what was edged off but they leave everything plumb and lined in. was 16 shovels of sand to half a bag of cement and usually a 1/3rd of a shovel of hydrated lime
They dont skim the same day... just hose down the walll a week or 2 later and then skim with lime putty .. comes in a big watery bag and then hardwall is mixed in it . 90% of the work i did was no angle beads, they do the internals / externals by hand or there bull nosed - beads are spec'd by the client and not standard as over here.
I couldt really comment on plastering in other areas though ... i know over the other side of oz they use totally diff materials and different methods and some i knew had trained for years in after they moved to perth
Hard to say whether its worth it - i was abit taken back at first at how they did things, 99% of ceilings are taped and jointed but thats a separate trade as is ceiling fixing .. i didnt find the money massive, the main lads earned the $$ because after you hit say 50m2 anything extra made him the money plus he was there throwing on so he was prob earning easy 500-600$ a day
