had 2 bags of multi from same batch.....batch number 2093051535 date 01/08/2009......only a 12 meter ceiling today reboard and skim but was the hardest ceiling ive ever done..i hit a 37 over artex last week and it was a doddle compared to this badboy.plaster on 1st coat was setting within 5 mins i had to work it just to make it plasterable as i had already strated......thought it was their water softner so got another water supply for second coat....and exactly same happened..had to move like grease lightening....if u buy from this batch on side of bag you should return...do not use or you will have a mare like me today..talking to gypsum tommorrow..i dont know whether is storage issues...or a bad batch...all i do know is my right arm is falling off from trying to get the stuff flat..even had to 2 hander it
.im not a happy camper... >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

I have never used board finish, maybe now is the time to try. I was having trouble with multi today but it wasnt going off on me just not troweling up properly almost like chewing gum kind of sticky.

bloke i work with had that a few weeks back.......he even said like chewing gum...he also mensioned ripping.....today was really just setting silly in speed.....ive got onecoat/render/old plaster to skim on walls tommorow....board finish aint gonna hack it .....so just have to use another batch number in morning for builders merchants.....just wanna know why....why it propperly ****** my day up

im getting the chewing gum affect you put a trowel over it fine then from then on it wants to tear ???..........but its till wet ???........bizarre!

yeah its crap, use plenty of water to help flatten then have some lunch and a nice hard cross is what i have been doing but its a pain in the arris, makes the set much slower and longer.

I have noticed the demise of plaster over the last few years. the multi is less fatty and creamy than it used to be, more like board finish with all its little black gritty sh8te in it. had many a delivery sent back last year but it seems to be ok at the mo.

]]if you got a big set on can end up being near 4 hrs when its like that

Man am i glad ive read this tread.
I thought i was losing my touch. I had trouble last week with multi going funny on me. I had to use a fair amount of water from my spray bottle just to stop it tearing. I was worried i was going to get a bad finish but it turned out ok. I just had to work on it a bitmore than normal.

wonder what it'll be like in 20 years time when its imported from abroad when the mines run out in the u.k, could be hastle free or could cause allsorts of problems :-\

hopefully it will all be white plaster like knauf i love the stuff especially the fp90 i think that is knauf's multi

ad the same problemhttps://www.plasterersforum.co.uk/plasterers-forum/index.php/board,7.0.html with board about 2months ago, just gone back to it no probs now

It also getting warmer now...this aint helping matters.s**t is going off a lot quicker cus the temparatures are getting hotter each day.

dont take offence to this ...it aint anything to do with the weather....the mix went off in under 5 mins..which is silly...today another batch ( i checked batch no. ) no problem what so ever......moody batch thats all..told the builders merchant...we set 15 bags aside all same batch....and told gypsum rep.......just wanted to know if anyone had this madness happen to them..i know settign times change in weather..ive been laying on 5 years...i ain t no old hand by any streach of the imagination..but i can plaster lol to a fashion........just the mix went off on me super super quick....it was the first time ive seen it ....

same happened to me years ago, dodgy batch, mixed it up then carried it up the stairs, went to tip it on the board, nothing happened, set rock hard in less than 5 min, fook all to do with the weather, we had 20 bags of it some of it set in 15 min others all less than 30 min. all went in the skip :D :D

iv had it..when mixing it seems shinny like a waterproof grout if you know wot that looks like mixed up..

crap stuff good for patchin!

I have been having problems all week with this chewing gum shite multi, got so fed up today i called british gypsum and I fink they are gonna send out a rep.

Bunch of tossers

I have had probs in the past with the odd bag here and there nothing on this scale though,it must be a storage issue thats all it can be...take it up with gypsum or try using board finnish instead.

Thanks for the pointers, been using board for the past few weeks I'll keep away from multi. Tell me knauf plaster, I've only used it once a long time ago and as I recall it didn't go to plan so not used it since, I do know it looks the dogs when finished well, how easy is it to use, it's all sponge floats isnt it? Sounds like a diy question I know!

Phippsy , your just a f****t ,if it goes off that quick you could be at the pub for 1st knockings.Or having a round of poker.Lol.
