Suffered for years with constant dull ache with the lumbar. Always just get on with it but eventually decided just before xmas to go to doctors just to check nothing sinister anyway all he did was make me touch toes and twist blabla and apparently all's ok don't know if this is the normal way to test seems strange as I cant sit down on any chair for more than 20mins without being uncomfortable and can hardly move in a morning etc.

Anyway any work tips for fellow back sufferers? maybe how you've adopted how you put your gear on or trowel up? or any little tips regarding bending/stretching anything really?

Thanks Zombie

As simple as it sounds. Bend your legs not your back when lifting. Its amazing how much different it makes

i messed my back up while banger racing but now only really hurts in cold weather

i did go to chiropractor for few months but cost a forture unreal how much better you feel after
i must of been so tenced up cause one move sounded like a shot gun ad gone off but was freeing up me neck

Bad back , bad knees ( oh no did I mention bad knees john:-) )
now might right wrist is killing me, what would I do without voltarol and copious amount of pain killers

as G** as it sounds stretching and yoga classes................av had a bit lower back trouble this year, been to a sports physio marra of mine and ive got exercises to do 1st thing in the morning and last at night.............

Made the fatal mistake of buy a memory foam matress, cost a fortune and the physio says they make your back worse.........................FFS

Feel it most when cleaning out the drum and scoping the gear out when spreading..........seems to be just at the right height and it niggles...............tend to find mechanics get the same stiffness with working over bonnets in the same position all the time.

Acupuncture can be good as well

Hi Zombie,
I had a nerve trapped in my bottom 2 discs which gave me severe sciatica. When the condition first started I was in pain like I have never known, rushed to hospital and put on morphine and then stayed on some pretty strong painkillers for about 6 months. Since then I have made exercise a part of my life, nothing to strenuous . just find what works for you, I do pilates ( at home watching dvd) a bit of yoga, and weights. lost a lot of weight which helped (nearly 4 stone so far).
read my old thread sciatica, what a pain. tried pasting it but wouldnt some how. theres some great advice from the guys on here. best of luck bud.

Since going to the gym 15 months ago it's the best I've felt since being a teenager , back is a lot stronger now,as one thing feels better my wrist starts giving me gip, if I'm honest tho I don't know if it's plastering or pushing the weights :-) cos I haven't done much plastering in the last couple of months .

Does anyone know if you can pay for accupunture through the company account as a legitimate business expense?.

Try going for a brisk walk every day. The body was designed for movement and walking is very good for it.

He is still allowed jj. He walks to the offie for her wine. Walks to the late night petrol station for her fags. Walks to the chinky for her late night carry out

Is it not about time you got her fishing rod foot and headed down the canal? You might catch Moby dick lol

Forget going to the doctors, they don't give a sh*t. Best finding a good local physio and seeing them. Mine is £30 a session but much cheaper than having time off work or struggling in pain at work!?

Yep that's proper G** :-0

And that's G**.....Bending over bonnets......getting a stiffness in the same position :RpS_unsure:

Ffs Arti your one queer M̶o̶t̶h̶e̶r̶...Fatherfcuker :RpS_scared:

Just how you like me on the Birmingham bumming channel...
;-)

I'm using The Plasterers Forum Mobile App

Try accupuncture. I had trouble with my back for years. Went to the doctor and all he offered was diclofenac. No physio or anything. You have to laugh. You get people who have never worked in their feckin lives and they get everything. I think he thought I was trying to get on the sick or something, even though I'd only been to the doctor twice in twenty something years, and that was with a cyst in my eye both times. Been once more since but that was a false alarm. I paid for an osteopath myself and it felt better but would then lapse back again after a couple of weeks. My last hope was an acupunturist and it worked. Unbelievable. No problems since. And no daily Ibuprofen or any other gut rot. Give it a go. Find a good one, though, otherwise you might end up in a wheelchair.

Ive suffered all my life with my back and have tried it all eventually a few weeks back went to the doctors and insisted on an X ray which was not a problem and came back showing arthritis ime now waiting for blood tests to come back to see what type it is, go back to your quacks mate and insist on an X ray.

Hi Lucius,

This is my worry how can a basic test of touching toes and lying on back pulling knees to chest whilst doctor pulls opposite way show something like arthritis up. I think im going to insist on a mri even if have to pay privately at least gives peace of mind I guess!

Thanks for all the tips lads!!!

First of all your doctors an Everyman not a specialist. A physio will give you sets of exercises that will help and make sure you are warmed up before you start work. Keep your weight down and try a smaller trowel, might help.

You can insist on an mri, I did ,just keep emphasizing how your job depends on it. You shouldn't have to pay for one.

You can insist , but the have procedures and hoops, which I call "the dance" and dance you will before an MRI is done, first see doctor, then physio, then X-ray then physio exercise then see doctor, six months or a year of this, possibly ultrasound, then cortisone, then physio then doctor, lots of dancing before MRI in London anyway

Research your local surgery and find out which of the doctors specializes in backs (if any). keep going to that one and ask to be referred for an MRI scan. Yes you can offer to pay, which will speed things up, as the GP's have one eye on their budgets nowadays. If you're found in need of treatment then that will be done by the NHS.
In the meantime, have at least a 20 minute walk before work, it will help as said above :RpS_thumbup:

Nice one bubbles :RpS_thumbsup: @zombie don't be afraid to change gp or surgeries to get what you need, a lot of it depends on your area. Like John said May be trickier to do in London.

Get the Xray first mate that will show if there is any mis alignment in the vertebrae and hips also any arthritis, if that shows nothing the MRI will show soft tissue damage, MRIs are around
£250 per area but I would push to have the Xray first and if that shows nothing they will have to MRI you.
