I've just started full time fishing Church, will let you know how it goes ;)
Hope it works out OK for you, at £3m2 you should do alright shouldn't you as long as it's not all the s**t left over by others.

good luck church, sorry to hear its quite for you...not fantastic here either but am just about surviving, as soon as im down to a few days something comes in..but having to work for builders 50 % of the time who are demanding the world..and getting it nigh on..had 2 arguments last week already over when im being paid....all trying it on around my way....but my surfing has got better

Good luck mate! Pretty tough going on site for me lately. Like dogs fighting for scraps at times. And the amount of gangs booted off for lousy work was unreal. You might find you've missed it :-\

Work has been pretty slow and very competitive , don't really know how some peeps are working there prices out ,been under cut on a few nice jobs by vasts amounts of money , the latest being 85 m2 of two coat stone dashing my price £1100 including mats the winning bid being £550 all in , the materials being £180 things are getting worse imo ,hardly worth pricing things best just start asking how much do people want to pay .

Some people take the pi55 with their pricing, think on Mon to Fri weekends off no pricing 50m a day 750 a week happy days.

I started two weeks site work on monday for the first time in ages on monday to help a mate out. Firslty I could not get over how cold it was im to used to being in nice warm houses now! Then about 3 hors later I remembered what a pain in the arse it is to get joiners to do anything for you at any great pace! I F*****g hate joiners >:(

What would you guys say is the best method of finding site work in the current climate, would you say actually going to a site and introducing yourself and asking ref any work going

May be its like some sites of old , get use to seeing the same faces the same rules and things in the same places like containers and the general layout of main contactors site offices toilets and a nod and a wink from the site agent when things are getting a bit behind schedule etc, maybe the new sites big sites have not seen the same subbys for a while ,different firms bringing in the materials , rules and regs change people come and go more offten , language barriers are pushed to the limit heath and safety get involved, cscs card holders only and cause a lot more paper work, inductions ,method statements, risk assessment's public liability bla bla bla ;D all for three bucks a m2 no measure through 3% retention ,ctib contributions and having to wear silly vests and hats and getting no thanks what so ever sail onward the future is bright. ;D

IM 44 NOW AND DID IT FOR YEARS, 1+1 F+S 80M A DAY @£5, FINISHED AT 3PM. COULDNT DO IT NOW, TOO OLD
AND BEFORE DRILLS :( :( Good luck mate, dont envy ya, sorryabout the capitals. STELLA ;D

you will be alright after a couple of weeks breaking in church and £3 is good so look on the bright side pal. dont agree with retention being passed onto subbies tho

Thats not a bad price there church but at those rates now there must be a catch, as alot of contractors are forced to go in at those rates at the moment. Site work aint too bad as long as you get your head round not having a laugh at work :-\

I know a few firms paying £1.70 then take your tax off 5% retention and 2% C.I.T.B petrol and parking And your left with f**k all

Quite right the cracks well and truly gone now, theres some right miserable c0nts on site

£1.70 a metre how do you make a living off that? :(

we were getting 3 quid a meter nearly ten years ago,
why does every thing else go up apart from yardage rates.to think council workers in bradford at the moment are considering striking at moment because of a pay freeze this year.1.70 is half what we were getting ten year since, what with inflation etc thats a 50% wage decrease if that was any other industry there would be rioting.

i just started a house today. iv been doing a lot of 1-2 day jobs and havent really been busting a nut on them.

got a good run, bout 800m skim and 350 float and set. skimmed bout 30 boards today and left thinking how unfit i am now. think i should be ok in a week or so

In site we always got paid by the board 15 euro for skim and 8 or 9 for tacking prices are now down to 11 for skimming and you can still make good money.

UPDATE.

Two days on site now , i have total respect for site plasterers now , Although i have a fair amount of site work in the past times change and also at aged of 41 , i feel this is now a young mans world and if anyone older can produce the amount of work needed they has my full respect .

First day- was a bit of a loss financially , site induction and just getting the tools over to the site put pay to a quick start only managed one hit of around 60m2 and a bit of d&d ,but the prep was more important at that stage.

Day2- Signed in and off and running 3 hits with no labourer ( off sick ) 120m2 approx also having use Dura finish on one wall in each room which slowed us down a bit anyway cleared up and set up for Monday left site at 4.45 , woke up this morning and i feel like i have been in a fight ;D .

Its a slog mate. I hate it when you have been on the same job for a while doing the same flats and in the end every day just seems to be the same horriable endurance test!

I dont mind it when you've got big bits to go at. Its when you come to the end and you've got fiddly bits. All the snags that take ages, thats what gets to me .
