Hi lads

Have a room to sot out. Cus has a chimey breast ith real log burning fire. Inside of fire place is getting left as exposed brickwork but the main face of the breast has need repair as it has fallen back to brickwork in prts before being skimmed. Given the heat etc what would be the preffered backing coat to bond out the repairs on the face of the breast?

Try and be nice Arti :rolleyes)

sand cement lime for backing and victas for top, i think its something like the victas should be about 300 wide round the opening and 600 high from top of opening, everything else you can do in multi or if you dnt want to pissball about changing material do it all in victas

Not saying anyone's right or wrong, and i don't get many open fires to do, but is it a necessity to use heat resistant plasters on open fires ??

I opened mine up 2 years ago now, 6:1:1 with a black dye on the inside and metal beads and finish plaster on the outside, it gets that hot sometimes that we have to open windows, ive never had a single crack inside or out...

Just lime sand mortar will be fine. Ive used tough coat before and never had a problem. Its not directly in contact with the flame or heat so shouldnt need victas.
