For the third time in a couple of weeks i have been on jobs where home owners/builders have had really bad plastering done and i have been asked to sort it out , i have quite a large number of plasterers in my area so theres a good chance some are rubbish but i would just like to know how offten you guys see bad workmanship on your travels .

I see it all the time Church and it really makes me mad, people accept the cheapest quote but unlike plumbing etc this trade is a finish trade so you pay for what you get .... grrrr

Just been to see a neighbour who has a had a builder in since Feb then cos the surveyor from the building society turned up a couple of weeks ago and asked why the job was in such a state and told the lady to get shut quick as nothing was right (well the little he had done) So she got another guy in and the surveyor was not happy, so she called me round to have a look, What a fuuuukin mess , First thing i said was , "you have not paid em anything have you" yes she replied nearly ten grand "WHAT" i said are you mad she said the first guy wanted 6k for the plastering and damp course and 2k deposit for the new kitchen and 1k deposit for some upvc doors (bear in mind this house only has a n average size lounge and a small kitchen/diner with entrance hall and small out house att) but she sacked him and got another guy in who finished the DPC and plastered up to about 600mm high and he took her for a grand, What do you think she said , i was gob smacked i couldn't believe she had dished out all this money and got f**k all in return, and any work that had been done was diabolical, it is just too mystifying to put in to text , then i i had to explain to her about gutting out all the work that had been done incorrectly and the right way to do it, i said why didn't you ask me in the first place , she said that she had heard that i was good but expensive, then when i told her that the damp course and remedial plastering would off been half off what she paid the first guy she went sheet white (and this lady is afro/Caribbean) so now i have to price for putting all the works right , Which inc dot n dab that has de bonded , sand and cement for damp course which is loose and crumbling off the wall and a boarded ceiling which has been done in 9.5 mm boards on the wrong way and about two fixing per joist and made up off so many offcutts you would not believe unless you had seen it etc etc etc etc etc , It is inconceivable that we still have people in the building trade like this in this day and age , happy day's for me though eh , always a bright side i suppose (spunky you not been workin in Donny have ya)

Yeah maybe, I'm just seeing it a lot more lately i don't know what its all about , had one job that i looked at ,the spread had re skimmed a ceiling over artex and still managed to leave the patten from the artex showing after he'd plastered it he told the customer that it would not show after it had been painted and that he'd put 4-5 coats of plaster on it to fill it out ... wtf ...

The amount of times ive heard "i heard your good but expensive" said, pisses me off, especially when they are asking me round to put it right. They have paid for it twice thats why its expensive lol. The reason people think im expensive is coz im in and out not messin about dragging it out some people are more pleased if youve been there all week for £500 rather than 2 days and feel theyve got value for money. I fell out with a mate of mine who has conny company used to get regular work and good money (gutted)then i done work on his house and once i finished he complained the first complaint i had and it was im not happy about the time it took i think you rushed it, i said is there anything wrong with the finish? no the finish is perfect but i think you rushed it lol i think he realised i was earnin the same if not more than him and some people dont like this.

Got a lot of mates that have rental properties but they don't use me cos i,m too expensive, but when they want owt doin on their house they call me ??? , one of em been using me a lot a lately though , i've been goin an puttin right the failed DPC's and associated platering ;D

Exactly what you and flynny said in a nut shell mate

did a job in bollington last week and someone had started it it looked like john mcvicker had done it using his own special plaster mix

All of the above spot on. I know I'm fussy but when looking at other peoples work I hardly ever see plastering that I'd be happy with, even some of the lads with good reputations . I've worked for plenty of builders and individuals that are happy with the price given but then don't like how much you earn by working hard and fast, tossers. By the way have you noticed that those that can do a good job are nearly always on the quicker side as well?

seen sum crap.. one guy dint even use beads on new board work and left 1000,0000 of misses all over and was a shap sand finish multi plaster effect!

Just been told by my neihbour , yes please can you do the work for me, When i typed the qoute out was just about to press print and i thought fuccckit and stuck £500 on top, now i'm over the moon ;D ;D ;D

If you didn't spend so long counting 10,000000 misses on someone elses work you wouldn't have to keep flattening your first coat mate ;D ;D

ive seen lads one coat hardwall with skim, it had more white in it when finished than pink!........when floating they put stop beads at 6 foot to rule of but stuck them up willy nilly without a level .........imagine a 2 metre wide wall with a door in it ..........there were stop beads on that wall too ......beggars belief ???..........this was a fair sized job aswell and the lads managed to do the lot ............wonder if they got paid ::)
