Evening folks

I have had a look over the forum to see if i could get an answer for my question but have not been able to find it.
Hopefully you dont mind me using this mine of knowledge that is around here.

Ok
We have an extension onto an old stone built house
Construction of walls is
1.Stone wall
2.4inch cavity
3.75mm celotex
4.thermalite blocks

kitchen is on the ground floor and a bedroom above

have decided to go with the batten and board option (mainly because of access probs)
am using 25 x 50mm roofing battens

now what i was wondering is if it is ok to add more celotex in between these battens and then board.

Am I right in thinking that because of the cavity we wont have any condensation issues if there is no gap between the 25mm celotex and the plasterboard.

Cheers all
Any advice will be greatly appreciated

I was going to batten onto the blocks and then plasterboard
my main dilemma was if I could put the extra celotex between the battens.

Why do you need extra insulation when you have it in the cavity? If you want extra insulation you will be better off dot and dabbing a insulation backed plasterboard

Just thought it would be easier i suppose.
we have got major probs with access to this site and was trying
to make life a bit easier. But maybe your right.
how ever do you think the option I have described will be ok even if a bit more work.

you can use celotex, do whatever is easier for you, i'm guessing you don't know how to dot & dab therefore battens will work just as well

Thanks for the input folks
By the sounds of it I'm just achieving what I would with dot and dabbing an insulated plasterboard . I mean you wouldn't leave a gap if using that method would you .
also trying to minimise the thickness of walls.

i have d and d in the past but its something im not mad on to be honest and i just want this job im doing to be as solid as poss.

if i was going to do this your way ,in the kitchen i would put a layer of ply on before the plasterdoard on walls where units are going to be fitted to make sure you have a good fixing for your units

you got there before me lee haha i was gonna say make sure you ply walls that are goin to have units on if your goin to batten and board:RpS_thumbup:

Will be fine mate but as another poster said its prob not worth it. 25mm insulation won't make much difference if you've already got 75 in the cavity.

Thanks folks
im happy to go with this option now. I can see its a bit OTT though. Have decided to dot and dab a few of the walls now as well . Thanks for all the advice.
