How do fella's,
Just coming to the end of a job I've skimmed out top to bottom, the lad who owns the place has been following me round painting rooms I've plastered, where the plaster has dried out over the beads there is a dis colouration coming through the plaster, the bead cannot be felt but it is bleeding through like a staining, it is showing through the paint slightly, I bought a box of 50 beads from the builders merchants I use daily and when I wipe my finger down the bead there is a blackish oily residue coming off the beads, has anyone else had this before, I can't way up why they need to put anything on them.......... whats the point of galvanising them if they need to cover them in oil?

No mate.... 2 coats, all the time, like I say, you can't feel the bead or see it when its painted the finish is perfect, there is just a staining bleeding thro the paint.

We did a job a few months back and on the stairwinders we had staining coming through and had no idea why, it all makes sense now it could have been oil as they were meshed they combatted it by putting stain block on it.

had a look on the box today, couldn't see any make on them, Given a choice i would always go for a quality bead but these are what they stock, gonna ask if they've changed supplier recently, only had this problem on this job, never had it before. they're shite.

everything now a days is driven by price, buy in the cheapest s**t you can and sell it on for as much as you can. they're probably made in the far eastern quarter of Azabyjan for tuppence hapenny a dozen.

i bet goldtrowel get a good deal the amount they buy ::)

Luckily the bloke I'm working for is sound so no comebacks to me, although there isn't a great deal I can do about it now any way, where I've beaded up today I've given them a good wipe down with a paper cloth so time will tell I suppose. I mentioned it in the builders merchants this morning and the bloke behind the counter couldn't give a flying fook, but then again why would he, its not his reputation that will suffer he gets paid whetever...... to$$er. Gonna buy a box from somewhere else and use them instead.

@ Flynny, No mate, it's new block work, I've wiped all the beads with paper roll today before I skimmed em, so time will tell...
