Radio 4 this morning, HMRC Bod responsible says; Company applications for money for furloughed workers etc. now open. Apply now.
Big Dog can handle 450 Thousand applications an hour, process and pay in 6 days, expects to process and pay 2 MILLION applications before month end.

That is some big fckn dog, tested @450 Thou/hr, can probably run faster

Get stuck in Company guys, you have three days to apply and make month end.

Every1 deserves it either way,pay your taxes you deserve it,every1 will be giving it back 100xs over regardless of wether you claim or not,if there was a system of if you dont claim you dont have tax increases fair enough but there wont be so every claim is my opinion..not talking about multi multi millionaires I'm talking about your average joe

It's getting abused left right and right, will cause a lot of damage the few greedy taking advantage of it

I doubt they'll be very successful in hanging onto it once the dust settles. I reckon when the 2019/20 year end accounts go in a fair few will be getting an letter from HMRC by return with something along the lines of "are you taking the p1ss?".

As for the "it's all OK because it's our money anyway" cr4p, would you be OK with your customers from a year ago taking that attitude? Theft is theft no matter what bullsh1t you come up with to try and make yourself feel better about it.

Out of curiosity have you ever played the system in your life? I.e juggled about with expenses, petrol, miles, tools, office space in house etc? And got your taxable return down? Even if by 1p?

No, I use an accountant firm who are on the expensive side but are very good. They deal with everything in a completely legitimate fashion. So if I don't have a receipt or whatever they don't put it through and as I have a VAT reg'd Ltd Co then everything is paid for from the company account which means it's totally traceable. I don't accept cash payments at all for jobs, which is in my T&C's so every penny in or out can be verified.

So from a moral stand point my conscience is clear, and from a personal standpoint I know that I'm beyond reproach with HMRC. Which in turn means I don't have to worry about getting caught, or upsetting someone who then makes an anonymous tip to HMRC. I don't enjoy paying tax, nor do I agree with all of them. However I make a decent living so the notion of stealing from those in society who can least afford it is abhorrent.

I use a accountant he cost us about £120 a month,we are vat and the rest and I tell him to drive it down when tax is due to be paid,if your telling me you dont tell your accountant to claim back on everything going then fair play your a more honest man than me

That's entirely up to you, I'm not the moral police and nor am I telling other what to do. People have their own standards and make their own choices.

I will call out hypocrisy when I see it. So if you avoid whatever tax you can whilst also claiming whatever rebates, grants or handouts are available then it's hypocritical in the extreme. As I say though, your choice and there are many others who agree and do the same.

kitchen supplier/fitter i do work for had a little nest egg of 20,000 put away over the years, his little stash as he called it to help out in his retirement, anyhoooooo long story short, had a visit from v.a.t. people ,ended up with a bill of 17,400, almost in tears as he withdrew a cheque to pay for it in one go to get rid of it, but as he says at least i had the money there painfull as it was,no nasty/threatning letters/court letters etcetc

as much as i admire your principles imago, regarding declaring everything/not accepting cash payments,.this is my problem i find it hard to believe in all the years you have been in buisness that you have said no to cash payments,we have all had them in all walks of life inall buisnesses,at times such as this we need our little bag of cash to get by pay the bills etc

I have, ask anyone I've worked with or who has worked with me. I'd also say I genuinely don't think it makes a massive difference to your bottom line if you take cash under the table compared to being fully legit.

If you took part of your earnings in cash over a year you'd save 20% so on £25k you'd save £5k. But you wouldn't be able to claim anything against that £25k, and if you're investigated you're fcuked. Even worse if you're VAT reg'd.

So if instead of trying to hide £25k you put it through the books and re-invest it in the business you're actually making more money than you would if you tucked it.

I suppose it's a bit more advantageous if you're a sole trader doing lots of little jobs of no more than a couple days each. But even then I doubt the savings you make would be worth the aggravation and effort.

Cash has been offered or asked "how much for cash" a few times but I always decline, then turn the job down. I can't be hooped working for people who are that tight they don't want to pay tax. If they're going to try that they're going to try and save elsewhere too.

I have to agree that it's best to play things straight.

Not so much for moral reasons (if anything, I believe tax itself is immoral, in some respects), but more for peace of mind and keeping life simple. That and I believe karma catches up with you, eventually, anyway, so why create possible future problems for yourself?

I like to play straight ish....ish being the operative word

I'd say tax is moral in principle, but it's like socialism in that they get twisted to immoral purposes as soon as they are put into practice. Human nature I suppose.

As a sole trader I like cash purely for the flexibility and ability to keep it away from the Shylock banking and financial system, not the Taxman. I don't mess with HMRC & never have. Unfortunately I'm being forced more and more to accept transfer payment and deal in data money.

Hah! HMRC's Big Dog uk-wide website has just crashed, nobody can get in. I got an mail this morning telling me to submit a new SA return and that I'd got a message, - they probably sent thousands of the same out and everybody is trying to log in at the same time.
