Hi all just got a job to skim a bathroom and the customer has painted on that black stuff tanking I think? Is it ok to skim over as per usual? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

just skim it mate the owners f**k*d up putting that shite on the wall. Just make sure it's dry before you skim. I had a job a few years back were the guy painted that bituminous stuff in a front bedroom thinking it would hold the damp back what a nob. I just skimmed it I told him what a fcuk up he had done.

if its dry then why not use wba, just tell them what they have done is not correct but you will do your best to put it right.

unless it has had sand thrown at it when wet and actually stuck on properly it will blow any backing plaster

the good news is that will have finished, got paid and spent the money by then ..:RpS_wink:

did some work a few years ago for a builder who asked me to render over it with s/c ....told him it would be no good,

when the builder was fired off we got to hack it back off ---thoroseal /replaster

good luck ...

Which is the correct answer....
so instead of trying to screw with it with some other solution....simply tell the owner to recoat it with the same material ...toss the sand at it while it is still wet ......then bond and skim

you could even dummy down this second coat by using something that would re emulsify the original coat....basically cut the tar/whatever with some liquid ,make the second coat spread faster and at the same time soften the first coat ...then bradcast sand into it

come again lol

if you cant betokontakte / wba ) because of sweatin or bubblin & we cant plaster it due to risk of reaction or blowin off imo i would tell the customer the only way around it is hack it all off & driline the bathroom out with mr boards & skim & get a sparky to put an extractor fan to draw any moisture out

if its the waterbased stuff it should cover ok, did 1 about 3 years ago painted it on threw abit of sand at it, bonded and skimmed..still good today
