I suppose spreads of a certain age will remember this style of rendering. Anyway at this house today and the external
had that old english rendering over it, well that's what we use to call it. It is rendering with over lapping strokes of render, you have to get it right or it looks a fooker, now it just looks out dated and naff.

i had a bash at that once... just the back side of a garden wall that was build with snap headers...
i spent ages trying to figure out how to make water drip off it right and not get caught in the grooves so it was more like a uniform clamshell than old english... start from the bottom and work upwards sort of thing...
quick to do though... :RpS_laugh:

only ever done it once with the fellow that taught me , right b*****d for me i had to hod s**t loads of gear up ladder !

I know the finish there is an ex council house on a main road by me with it on looks bloody stupid and my parents had it on there fire breast in there house but my old man used to call it spanish plastering dont know why?

Ive got an American book from the 50s which has all these finishes in it, English and Spanish remember American architecture and methods come from the immigrants who settled there who brought the methods with them, for that reason the Yanks do know it all.
