Can't bloody give work away >:(

My NVQ assesser phoned yesterday asking if he could assess me doing some work, I told him i havn't had a sniff of work for two weeks but I'd try and find some.

I text everyone in my mobile and offered my services free and all they have to pay for is materials at the price i get em!

Nobody wanted it!

At this rate i'm gonna have to find a job at bloody asda ???

I phoned builders and spreads all over and none are taking on..........

I had that problem but I managed to get some pretty tight at the minute site sucks!

Smacking miles on for shite meterage and by the time the firm takes the windows and doors out you losing money

Danny

PS Good Luck

It takes a long time to get a name for yourself in this business and times are hard, these days you need to have a lot of contacts with work that's not affected by this credit crunch or you need to be jonny on the spot in the right place at the right time, or a good wife helps .The best advice i can give is to do the best job you can do all of the time and hope your reputation grows .... Small builders tend to be more loyal and even if they only a couple of jobs a year it all helps to fill in your year some will use you for a price guild and cause you nothing but hassle ,but when they get the job they need doing right first time ?

Church is spot on in what he says. I'm confident that the handful of developers, small builders and selected plastering & drylining contractors that make up my clientele, are going to keep me in work through this 'recession.' I've always bent over backwards to ensure that the work is turned out on time and to a high standard, and they know that. I'm not the cheapest and i'm not about to start cutting my rates to compete with Johnny No Tools who'll do my job badly for a pound a metre less.

Very hard going at the moment, hope things pick up soon for everyone.

someone talking about working for asda?
just wondering what the going day rate would be for shelf stacking...
so double that and do two sets a day for that money..private work..
theres skilled lads working in engineering on 8.50 an hour...time 1/3rd overtime...
or..
go sign up with an agency, pays the rent...advertise privately and do em at night, 1 set after 4 oclock doesnt kill you and doubles your weekly wage in 3 nights or a saturday..
plenty of pies about, you just need extra fingers ;D
i agree with church though, make every job count...
and get some business cards and give em out like sweets at every job..

must depend on where you are at the minute mate, ive just had 2 weeks solid and im f"cked...nothing next week though... o 2 ceilings that i was gonna do tomorrow, kb'd it till next sat cos im a day behind cos of the snow yesterday..
back welding for a week next week methinks...

that said i did knock 70 quid off an average full room price and stuck 'recession proof rates' on the advert...

I'm still doin bout 3 days a week..iv been offed a re render of a big house this week..problem is i hardly have any external experience always been in side

Hmm I know you cant plaster air but on other firms we got paid for windows and doors an all sorts.

The other thing is that I dont want to advertise as such cos I dont want to let people down so I am happy doing what I do.. money is a lot less than 2 months ago but I dont have any bills and can comfortably live off £50 a week so I not one to moan.

I have a good reputation where I live and get a good amount of work but I just think that people are thinking twice about getting there ceilings done.

Danny

I would sub contract that rendering job out if I were you, better to make £50 and keep your name than lose it and lose your name as well

I for one would definately NOT wanna be rendering this week, or next week not until this weather sorts itself out..

doors are one thing nothing to plaster on one side for sure usually both but windows most have reveals you should get money for them or at least be it linnea or beed and anything tricky should be either price or linnea

who's the fifm danny believe me most big firms pay nothing for beads and reavels they just wrap the tape round

found out today that they are gonna pay us for beads wahoo. ... the next job I am on there are some big stretches so might make the money back.
