I have just been to see a job where all the plaster has blown from a plasterboarded ceiling .... the whole lot is coming off in sheets leaving perfectly clean plasterboard underneath.

I cant figure out why, any ideas ????.

hmm interesting...something in the mix? something on the boards? excessive movement? weather related? If the boards are secure i'd hack off pva and skim.

i had this last week on a repair job to a stairwell wall. the plaste was just peeling off in sheets leaving perfectly plasterboard underneath!?!? just kept peeling it back until it was stuck sound so what started out as something the size of a stamp turned into a repair about 12 inches square. the skim wasnt multi though, it was white and only about 1.5mm thick so in answer to Rich's question, i dunno but i had the same thing too!

that is weird, ive never heard of this before and two jobs in one week...
sommat up with the board coating methinks....

although, if theres been loads of sanding done in the house between boarding and skimming it could well be dust...
other than that? :RpS_blink:

I had one where the paper came away, leaving cruble Gypsum underneath, just looked like a bubble, it got bigger as i watched it.Never had a it peel from new board though, Kebab grease may make that happen.

I have seen it before only on mr boards though like Chris says.
It's the silicone Impregnated in the board, that's why they should have bond it first.

But on normal boards skimmed after a few days fcuk knows!

the only time ive seen this before was when skimmed over some shinnee bonding agent but you could tell this when inspecting ,usually the problem is there to be seen if not i can only assume bad batch doubt the punter would believe that tho

I can only put it down to a thermal problem drying out to quick heating, fan heater just dried it to quick.

i was thinking the same as henry, mabey theve skimmed it and just banged aload of heaters in the room and shut the door and the plaster diddnt get to bond properly. fook knows though never seen it before??

white finish sounds like knauff had this problem on site with knauff if the boards are slightly dirty or dusty knauff doesent stick shells off when trowelling wipe boards down first:RpS_thumbup:

I used to skim a friend of mines rental properties a few years ago, he had a small gang of lads there that did a bit of every thing. on the few occasions that they used to do any plastering, i caught them wetting the boards down with a wet brush when i asked WTF, he told me the short course that they all attended the tutor shown them to wet the boards down to buy them a bit more time !!!!!!!!! The same happened the plaster shelled of the walls. He wasn't bothered tho only interested in getting them turned around quick as poss and getting his money.

site i`m on there using blow heater`s to dry blockwork out.only problem is,it`s turning plasterboard on ceilings a yellow colour.i take it this will be the moisture drying out of the boards.not looking forward to skimming them.

get some photos of that bobby, keep them for backup in case of problems - and tell the gaffer.

Richard.......Before I read the replies I would have said old boards so fck knows. Maybe boards are upside-down????
