just popped into my local aldi to see what tools i could buy that i dont necessarialy need and i came across some board props, ater hearong someone else mention they've had them from there before and they are good quality i decided to buy 2 at £6.23 each. £12.46 well spent as i'll be overboarding a ceiling later on in the month 8)

I bought a set from machine mart and they are complete shite after a few weeks the PLASTIC handles snapped, took them back and they had to be sent to head office for someone to say yeah they are broken...... nobbers.

Cheap tools are shite! I bought a power plus grinder to chase some lead flashing last year in the good old days when i actually had work to do, it burnt out after 15 minutes of abuse.

Ha Ha I bought a power plus 18v combi drill, was duly returned within 2 minutes for a refund, bought plenty of shite tools in the past my policy now is if its cheap and wank just dont touch the shite.

I got some of them props from aldi, lidl one of them any road, over six months ago , dead handy ,still in good nick an all :o :o (can i say dead on here don't want to upset the kids) ;D

i used to be all 'gotta have the best of the best of the best etc'.. but ive come to realise that most dewalt and makita, although good stuff aint all that much better than some of the others such as freud etc..
best guage is to actually get hold of the stuff and if it feels like its made of fluff its probably fluff and if it feels half decent, well, it probably is..
doesnt mean you have to pay silly money for good gear... look what the nicad makita gears come down to these days since li-ion took over.. just shows the mark up..
theres competitors out there producing virtually identical gear for half the price... its just knowing what your looking at..
to be honest though... buying 'my mums own brand' tools is just a waste of money imo...

reason i bought these props was because someone else on my course has been using them for a while and never had a problem, whereas the college ones broke really easily and seems rather too flimsy.

but in general if its a vital tool thats goes under strain or is a vital tool of some sort id either go for a recommended product pref withi my price range, but if nobody can suggest something i'll go for a reputable brand, just wish i asked someone about the squares from screwfix... that are more bent than mr motivators spandex at 5:30am!

Ive got a marshalltown drywall square in the van, but because its yankee its in imperial measurements,
so its longer than the width of a board, You cant cut a board when its stood on edge without propping it up first

why not cut 20mm off the end?
im guessing its 1220?

;D bit like my 'blade runner' now being used as a labourers finger trap by my chippie mate..

in theory mate, fantastic bit of kit..
in practice however, just make sure the windows open cos its goin through it.. ;D
just.. dont... complete pain in the butt..
problem is you need to have your boards flat on two trestles, they take quite a bit of effort to push through so unless you got three hands and 4 knees it drags the board along with it..
and its quicker and just a easy to use a stanley.. 90 degree corners - old saw and stanley, shapes - jabsaw

I bought 2 props from Liddle both handles have broke great idea but where can you get quality ones from.
My son is a full time ceiling fixer/ boarder and says blade runner is crap.

i had a couple of board props in a carry bag from tp's couple of years back, bout 25 quid for the pair..
theyre not the ones with the pump handle/mastic gun stylie, you just lift em and theyre on a ratchet, press to release, much more sturdy, no plastic to snap..
thing is, make whatever your using 10-20mm taller than your length and wedge em in, bit of 2x2 will do.. you dont really need a 'pump action' board prop..
and those props are likely to bend if you abuse em, then theyre buggered..

Buy a board lifter.Lifts the boards, holds the boards, great bit if kit.Not idal for small rooms only problem.
too much effort setting up,floor must be clear also.

so waste of money in the domestic world then ;)

There not a waste of money !!! paying a labourer to help you lift 8'4 s is a waste of money when you can use a machine to do it.You never look back buy a lifter trust me.........

They are if you dont do much boarding, in fact i have only seen them used on big boarding jobs even then there usually hired in

i dont even know what to do with half of that? whats a boardmate tool? sounds like a demented labourer?

i had one rich and got on with it ....the top wheel flips out so you can do corners and it pushes the scrim into the edge as youre going but i broke the blade on mine and cant get a replacement so if anything goes wrong its 20 quid a pop ....
seggs with the board mate you get youre first board up then fix youre board mate upto the edge with a long screw and it has a sort of resessed edge so you push youre next board into it against the edge of the other board and it will hold it like a lab would .......there good mate i had mine nicked >:(

mmm be handy then boarding on yer own, i usually get 6x3's for ease..
nice idea...

even when i used it i still use 6x3's ........fook doing 8x4's im a spread not a meat head ;D

Every plaster does boarding, every ceiling needs boarding,of course yull do boarding.
You now have 2 options pay for a helper £50 min a day or do it on your own with a lifter (easily).
I work on my own 75% of the time and do ceilings all the time with my lifter, lift the board up screw em in and the next one please.
I can board and skim a 5x4 room on my own in a day with out breaking a sweat or injuring my self.
Or i could hire a labour board and skim a room in a day and be £50 worse of (minimum)

i dont have too many probs on my own anyway with 6x3's its just gettin em lined up right can be a pain sometimes, i just use a bit of 2x2 as a prop, leave it wedged under the last one, get me board up, hold it with one hand, grab the prop with the other but like i said, gettin em lined up can be a bit of a sod..
be alright with that little gizmo..
