whats the best way? iv been doing so much overboarding lately and as always the room is never square and offten i find my self wanting to start the first board from the wall and the it makes the rest of the working out a pain...

so now iv started the boards 10" of the wall and lay whole boards on and fill the sides in with small cuts at the end..

how does every1 else do it.?

i find joist centers then chalk line them through... doesnt matter if they run out or are skew whiff as the chalk line still finds the centre of each.
I then start from the straightest wall and just work away from that.
if you stagger the boards. from the straightest wall ie full board, half board the cuts at the other side will be staggered also and not leave a straight joint that may crack

When we do ceilings, and ime talking big ceilings say 30 boards plus we never start with a full board against the wall on the run even if weve built the walls you will just get in trouble especialy on MF, if your using 1.200 wide board start you first board 500 away from the wall making sure you get a decent cut on the other side board the field then cut in the sides.Must admit on site we are a bit cavalier as we are not supplying so on your own job a bit of thought maybe to save on materials.

as above above above keep youre first board square as poss with the joist if you know the walls are pissed or youre working into stone i plant the first board in the middle of the ceiling and work out to the walls then when you get close to the edge temporarily fix the board that butts into the edge square with the last board keeping it square and get an off cut of skim bead cut the end off into a point then put a pencil in one of the holes and drag the bead along the edge then cut it using a padsaw

Spunkys the Man!!!
Thats how you do it Oasis dont let anyone tell ya any different .
Also if the light is in center of room i try to run the board joint between the light fitting (domestic).

I'm good at marking joist and all with string line ect. but yeah sounds like I'm going the rite way then by starting off the wall :-) thanks

NO...start in middle of room and work to edges, scribe the boards to edges as spunky describes above.
Once you got all your joist marked out.Run a new chalk line straight down the ceiling in opposite direction to joists and rtun ur boards of this line.
Do it like that and you wont have any "excessive" joints in the boards.Try also to run the first board halfway through the light to make life easier for you!!
When boarding overboarding etc.
You need to start your first boards of straight not square, you can scribe the cuts on the to sides (if needed) at ther end
Tel him spunky.

if there square to the joists keep em running straight like you would tiling ???.......is that the right answer ??? ;D

I also string ping but I have also in the past on a really bad ceiling cross joisted with top hat to give me a brand new grid

to true mate waste is waste... why throw money away and have to pay the re-cycle fees.. measure once... twice... then cut... (when paying for own materials ;) )
