Boarding done by seperate company

Bit of a long winded subject...but..

Rang up 2 places to get quotes for skimming and they both asked whether I will get someone else to do the boarding. They said they could do the boarding if I wanted but they also seemed happy for someone else to do it and did not insist they want to do it (incase other person balls it up)

Having looked into it, and spoken my some other tradesman, it appears that I may be better off (financially anyway) employing a company that specialsies in boarding - the idea being they will quickly and efficiently go round the whole house boarding it up and I save money on labour costs.

Does this sound right?

I think what I wnat is a drylining specialist- but when I search my local area for one all I am finding is normal plasterers who offer boarding and skimming so I suspect they will want to do the lot.

Is there any particular type of tradesman I should be looking for here?

Ask your plasterer if he knows a dry liner.failing that someone off here may be able to help.

Lots of plasterers prefer that the boarding is done prior to their arrival, lots will board and skim as a package also.if it's been skimmed you have choices, either get a board only price or get a price for both, chippys are slow at doing this kind of work, full time boarders are the fastest, plasterers somewhere in the middle, I for one would do it as a package, depending on how busy I am,

I would have that the other way first tackers then chippys then spreads?

I don't think there will be any savings if you employ separate trades. Unless you have a massive job. Tackers are usually commercial contracts doubt you will find them in yellow pages. Stick with board and skim and save the aggro.

All depends how much boarding the spreads have done, that will decipher how quick they are.
I do a decent amount, I don't know a chippy that will keep up with me, but I certainly not as quick as someone who's at it day in day out

I've seen chippys getting a day out of single boarding a ceiling . Say 5/6 8x4 . I used to do it £1 m a long long time back

Get

a board lifter for £220 , great tool
Someone's been had.
Boarding done by seperate company

All plasterers should be able to board as fast as they can skim. Also be as neat! We are. I'm a plasterer and can board faster than dry liners and be neater!

No doubt you can float and set about 100m2 on your own a day as well

We always board our own won't skim someone else's boarding. Neater, faster, plenty of screws in and none stuck out plus you can guarantee your work as you have done board and skim :-)

I always boarded my own work and only a few of the builders we use to do work for were actually good at it :-) The rest got a quote to board and skim :-)

No conclusive answer then. I'll get some actual quotes and see what happens.

I wnat a lot of soundboard so in theory a company that does a lot of boarding may have access to cheaper materials - as I need an entire house doing so it will add up to a lot of board.

I am based in Southampton if anyone knows a boarder.
