up till now i have being using the big gorilla buckets and mixing up a bag at a time, and most of the time there's plaster left over..... so what ive stared doing is using the small black buckets and mixing a bucket at a time and when it runs out mix another bucket and another bucket......that way the plasters going off at different times.

how does every body else do it. cheers

bag and a half (maybe just under) goes in a yellow wobbly tub for me... any more than that on an overskim and im pretty much rolling the set... maybe another half bag to finish an area sometimes... then maybe 3/4 of a bag for topping..
all depends on the room size, small one second set will only need a bag anyway..

Depends what im doing. Friend of the family is a baker and he gives us large tubs tht yeast comes in they are great hold just over 2 bags we usualy mix a 2 bagger then 1 bag for laying in.

its just dawned what your on about... i think we all had a similar discussion the other week?
with me its down to looking at what your gonna have that set and puttin just slightly over the right amount of water in so as to have a tiny little bit left over in a perfect world...
thats when you have to get it bang on, and its usually near as dammit, though id rather too much than not enough...
sometimes i get it wrong and have to mix a bit more...
still, if youve got everything prepped up (both sets, or maybe you roll 2 sets into 3 or more...) then i usually mix a bag and a half, even if say the ceiling only wants 3/4 of a bag the rest goes on something else, be it another 2 small walls, or just a reveal head, or maybe even stick a few more beads on next room...
whichever way you look at it, plaster costs 4 quid a bag, id sooner waste 4 quid than f'ck a set up running round mixing all the time when my time would be better spent on the end of the trowel..
my mate has a tall plasterers bucket and the line on it is clean below 1 bag and dirty above it so he just mixes 1 bag at a time in the bucket, very seldom does he mix small amounts...

We normally knock up 3 1/2 bags in the big gorilla tub. Normally does most average rooms in one go, 2 guys laying on and finishing. If i'm plastering on my own medium gorilla tub about a bag and a half. Half again to top it.

when mixing plaster should i be more accurate by measuring the water and measuring the plaster so i get the same consistance everytime.

i read on uk spreads that 15 litres will mix a bag and 7.5 for half a bag. does anybody use these measurments

you wont want the same mix every single time boyo sometimes youll need a thicker coat or a wooly jacket like ;)
