Building A Portfolio

Hello CHaps,

A small reccomendation, start a portfolio of your work sooner rather than later as this will inevitably help you get work and charge a much higher price as you can show off your standard.

I take photos before during and after and then I ask the customer if i can take some when the job is painted they normally more than happy.

I have also received letters from customers thanking me... I keep these and put them in my portfolio.

What do I use for a portfolio??

I went to staple and bought a leather A3 folder with a zip and then plastic wallets, this gives a great impression when they ask to see your work. The folder was about £25 and the plastic pockets they reccomend where £1-99 each i decided to use the normal ones which are about £2 for 20 I think does the job perfect.

Also for all you beginners getting your OSAT will be a whole lot easier with a portfolio as this gives your more credit when the assesser comes to visit you.

Hope this is of some use

Danny

Ive got a portfolio but never show it to customers to be honest. I agree with render ,think that a web site is the way to go and the customer can look at it in their own time without awkwardness while they flick through it.

Just do what they did to oasis. Cpoy a load of pictures on line print them out pretend there yours!!! Simples!

yea but somepeople dont ever bother so i carry a small folder when quoting job just to show off, i normally give it 2 them and say I'm ganna have a look around, that way they can have a look on there won while you go look buzy staring at 4 plasterbared walls!

I carry a small folder with some pictures of work carried out mostly external stuff and comments from customers , years ago i use to give a questionnaire out to customers to fill in while i was working , a sort of rate my service type thing . But didnt know it was partfolio at the time i feel happy now

i carry a small folder/ case for high end jobs......but i think a well set out website works fine with good google rankings.........having 12 websites and advertising on youtube looks desperate to me and cheapens a company but maybe thats just my opinion. A good portfolio does do wonders and getting some prominent high end jobs helps too...even if you go in cheap to get one, i did a kitchen that was going to feature in home and garden magazine...i wanted it so went in cheap...well certainly cheaper thn the competition.......out of that i got 2 other very high end kitchens from 2 bespoke kitchen companys and still do work for them now.....i also got a few jobs from a well known tv chief from one of these companies...........all from getting a high profile job in the first place......as with any business...sometimes its not what you know but who.......getting your foot in the door is the real issue in my book......and how u sell yourself and your company is i think the hardest mountain to conquer
