Hello everybody been lurking for a while but great forum,

Forgive my stupidity but maths isn't one of my strong points.

Whats the quickest way to calculate areas for rendering?

I have the front and back of a terrace to render after removing old stuff, it's 25 feet long by 20 feet high at about 1/2 -3/4 inch thick, how do I convert it into square meterage so I can price it up properly and order materials, is there a simple sum (simpler the better) god I hate metric it makes my head hurt.

I've been quoted £7.40 per bag plus vat for K-Rend is that a good price? but minimum order 70 bags is that enough?, never used it before but have rendered lots so am panicking a bit any tips? can I do one whole wall in a day on my own, it's onto 80 year old red brick with some concrete blocks mixed in, can I get away without a bonding agent?

Also I hear avoid plastic beads cos they shrink in heat causing cracking is it true?

Sorry for so many questions but don't want to scr##w things up as the gears so dear.

Thanks lads for any advice.

You will have phone k -rend and let them know what you are rendering over they will give the spec on what to use , i would fully mesh it what ever they say, and they might work out how much you need aswell they are pretty helpful. I take it its the scraped render you are doing ?

It works out about 46m2, providing a bag does approx 1m2 I d get about 49/50 bags to be safe.

so the gear will be 49/50 x £7.40 + VAT @15%

You will need to use a bonding agent on the bricks called rx7 then a base coat called hp12 this would need mesh putting into it then top coat , you cant use metal beads with krend , I think you need someone to help you who knows what there doing cause a 46 metre panel on you own with no experience is going to look terrible

Yep as per the the previous post (if you use K-rend) use a pre rend with mesh, plastic beads no problem and heafy's about right with the quantity but if you have not used it before then stick a few extra bags on ,in reality you really only get .75 of a metre to a bag . If you use another product then try try parex monerex or if its just a white finish you want then parex blanc du litteralwith an 8-10mm base coat incorporating lanko latex then top off while still green , this will produce a monolithic finish and the first coat reduces suction etc, plus it comes in 30kg instead of 25kg (sounds confusing but it is really easy, pm me if you are not sure)

Thanks, yes it's the scratched texture I was after, will give them a ring Monday.

Thanks, am I right its length x width gives you square feet? but is there an easy way to convert to sq meters I can do in my head?

This all sounds like it getting complicated and costly, methinks I'll try and talk them round to plain face sand/cement with a Tyrolean finish.

Thanks, it says Parex is for machine application , can you use it by hand? is the latex bonding in with the gear or pre applied and does it need meshing up

It does yea, but you need to work it out in sqm. There are 3.3 ft to every metre so whatever your sq ft works out to just divide that by 3.3

just bought 220 bags of parex 9.20 a bag 30kg lanko latex and 3 bags of there rendaid 600 for delivery

Grand the parex rep told me not to bother with the pre-rend and just incorporate the lanko latex in the mix of the first pass ,then top off as normal

the rendaid is for a section on eml mate and its an old house the lanko is getting painted on i aint using that through the machine
