I had queried this before with the question of whether you can use foam or bond and i had a few replies who said bond was OK but didn't say expanding foam wasn't....Has anyone used expanding foam for gaps in plaster board to fill in when they are bigger than 1cm or so?

dont use it... to expensive... takes over 2 hours before you can sand or cut down... goes everywhere... use grip fill or pink grip flatten with wet sponge or finger flush to board... tape over and skim straight away ;)

I use it regular on refurbs, it has to be the quick cure low expansion stuff , like the dow corning board fix or window fitters , fixing foam , great for problem areas and fixing board edges etc etc,

in other words not the diy stuff that takes over your entire house... you need gun grade stuff...

but personally i fill holes with whatever is on the van e.g. hardwall/bonding/driwall adhesive all knocked up with a bit of old finish with a drop of pva... smells loverly and cures in no time at all.. ;D

comes in handy 10 min touch dry 60 mins cure.as chris and monkey said the gun grade stuff.......cut back and then apply plaster....good for barns with weird angels on vaulted ceilings where gaps are hard to breech.....

And apprentices pouches, snap box, flask, crevice, etc etc :D :D, when did monkey post here Phippsy ???

yes you can ive seen lads dabbing boards with it ;D..............they had to go back every five minutes and keep tapping it back

The stuff is amazing I was working on a job a few years ago and the bloke running the job used it on the bath stone corballs as parts were missing, then facing them up with stone dust you couldnt tell the difference between the original and what he had done, which led me to use it on a part of bath stone that was missing on my house, i had a quote to get it repaired and it was £500 i did it in the same fashion and it worked perfect. That was 7 years ago i dont live in the same house now but i drive past it all the time and its still spot on.

Thanks everyone, good advice, ill have a look at the gun grade stuff and see how much cost wise it will compare to using bond or like Chris W says, i might try the odd concoction without whatever i have left over with a bit of PVA - i might test that out on one area. Cheers all...

measure twice cut once...
if you must, use board adhesive its what you are suppose to use plus its there at the same time, cant think why you would wanna use anything else especially sealers or fillers that aint going to adhere or bond properly to plaster when you skim over
