does anyone on here ever do this when youve got loads of work on?

and can you earn out of it.

was thinking of trying to get some work for other trades like bricklaying etc and subbing it out but was wondering if it is worth doing.

just be careful they bcan do their job properly..as it will always come back to u....and if u are doing all that why not just become a builder ......so you can spend your life in thye bookies or pub........ill take plastering all day....but i do subby out me painting....but earn very litlle out of doing this

Hello,

I made a killing from january this year, I had a plasterer that would work for £100 - £150 a day and was very quick and work was spot on.

It took a lot of organising cos you need to keep them busy and get materials to them ect some weeeks were better than others but overall I think I made it worth while.

The only worry I had at first was that if he cocks it its my reputation but i soon began to realise that he took so much pride in his work.

yeah fair comment , get a good subby u can trust youll make money off em...thats if they dont make contacts with your contacts first tho. and take your biz...but if it fits its a good thing as danny says

Just imagine how much money you can earn if you take off your cyber nerd glasses off and learn the trade physicallly well instead of talking a good one imo

i was an apprentice until i got laid off this month so i was learning the trade.

and sorry for asking if theres money to be made from subbing, maybe i should just plaster for free for the love of it.

bailey you need to know what youre doing before you start subbying work out mate ;)

wouldnt bother bailey.......... all the problem's come back to u. concentrate on your own business.
thats what ive learnt.

I agree, my spread just started helping me on big stuff then it went on from there. He has not had much off me recentlly.

Danny

church....are u talking to me...?
if so........
what do u know about MY work?why u getting insulting anyway...or is that your way cause u been in trade for 25 years?ie bitter and twisted? someone asked a fairly intelligent question and your slagging,i just told my experience of subbying, or maybe your king OF the subbies and youve been subbyied out all your life....who knows

made some decent money out of subbies, did a lot of garage conversions few years ago, subbied all the work out except the plastering ,organisation is the key if your the main man on the job doing all the running about and fetching materials for everybody then yea

church has given some sound advice on here lads .......without the poo poos to each other he expands plastering a bit more than the average how do i skim a ceiling ;D...........do you ever get wound up when someone does a bit of plastering then think they can run 10 blokes overnight ?............fair play to them if they can but i can see where church is coming from this might be the internet but we all do it day in day out ........5 day coursers are the same fook me ive got me grades lets do one ....wahey lets price some jobs ........go to the top of the thread and start again .........i like the bit where it says 'learn the trade physicallly well instead of talking a good one imo'

I dont think anybody is taking digs or trying to score points.

I have found over the years that customers can pick out if you have the experience or not. However I have priced jobs myself that I had know idea how to do I then draft in a spread that has experience.

I went and looked at a job on saturday its a re furb in an old house, the whole house needed screeding and all the walls float and set. I bought a long a screeder because that is what he does, he will be doing what he does best at a price he is happy with while I do what I do best..... (make tea)

But to be the best manager you neeed to know the game (just as church said) what if one of your lads phones up saying he cant skim the wall because its painted.... you need to know when they are giving you flannel.

I have set a few traps for my spread and he has passed with flying colours.

I asked a customer (I knew them) if they could ask him for a card, My spread give him one of mine. Another customer asked him if he could do the skirting he said yes customer asked him how much and my spread advised he spoke to me.... test passed again.

I think using common sense is essential but the risks are always there!

I hope this has not offended anybody.... I dont get offended very easily either...lol

All the best

Danny

PS I deleted a couple of post as they may have been seen as offensive

next time he might take the card and you lose a good spread ......thats life mate

if i have too much on i've got a mate who helps me, i split the money 50/50, he does the same for me. i've tried to run jobs in the past but i've not got the temperment for it, to much of an old hippy! give it a go, if you succeed you're squids in my old cocker!

Yep there is that spunky. I think we have a good relationship, he knows that if he does anything out of line I know other spreads that will be glad of the work...lol

Danny

a good subby knows that losing regular work off one contractor is not worth risking for one job off joe public.

a good subby also pays other peoples wages and will have other contacts
