Can you use 100mm (10cm) for use batens to attach plasterboard too?

Just wondering if there is a reason not to use wider battens to attach the plasterboard too when battten and boarding I have seen some 100mm wide ones would they be ok?

You could use osb board over the top and then you dont have to worry at all

I did this on my office wall so I can hang screens where I like

I've done several jobs over 100mm grounds, but there is a tendency for it to be dished.
