Hi Chaps,

Been given some bags to use on a thincoat set up that say the below on them

Cement' in c+g (cantillana) 30kg

Has anyone ever used this product before over brick/blockwork as a basecoat with mesh before topping with a acrylic/silicone bucket coat

Anything in particular I need to know about them???

1 thing I had noticed is that t think it says to dampen the walls down first? where as when ive used weatherby or sps envirowall ive just gone straight over dry with no prep.

Any info greatly appreciated Zombie:RpS_thumbup:

I have used C+G many times as a base coat prior to topping with Granicem. Tech reps told me on facing brick or low porosity substrates apply a coat of sbr and apply C+G whilst wet or tacky.

I found C+G easy to apply, mesh and rule, spat but thats where it ends. Rubbing and sponging it up needs mastering as it is rubbery and I fail to get a decent flat finish like ocr. There is a knack apparently, all to do with timing and the way you use a sponge float.

Pity because it appears to have quite a lot of polymer in it.

Thanks Rigsby realy appreciate yoyr feedback your a gent!:RpS_thumbup:

mmmmmm now im wondering if its worth mixing it up 50/50 with some sps envirowal bags as found that realy nice to use though don't know if that would make it better or worse???

Thanks again mate:RpS_thumbup:

Mix it with Envirowall's what? Two different setting times and strengths come to mind.

I brought this rubbing up problem up with Envirowall and they suggested skimming it over with retrobase. It will work but more labour and material cost. This was for finishing in a mineral based texture without having to prime.

Thanks Rigsby that's realy useful actualy as I probabley have just about the right amount to base and mesh with the c+g and then enough of the retrobase to top and rub up ready for a bucket coat.

having used both products would you go down this route if you had enough of both bags?

ps...do you think be ok to go staright over standard rough/coarse bricks and block without water or sb with c+g?

Thanks Rigsby appreciated

Only used C+G on low suction backgrounds so always been on sbr. Suppose if it stays fluid long enough for you to use a edge on it and get it flat then why not?

put bucket coat on retro base with no problem. My querie was in relation to putting mineral texture on a flat background as they do not make a sealer for a porous background.

A skim of retrobase was suggested so flat and smooth with no suction. Just the cost. An answer to texture in the winter though.
