iv been doing loads of over boarding ceiling lately. to day i came to a job were the guy said there was some old paper on the ceiling said it should come off easy.. so we found out that under the first layer it had wood chip and it was on a lath ceiling with coving... what do you do? i said im ganna over board with 9.5 but that's ganna cost them more now.. is there no other option? also there is no timber around the 2 ends and the coveing is covering it.?

you never know whats under paper! i always tell the customer that if i gotta strip paper there might be something nasty underneath that will require overboarding. cover you arse!

i would get them to remove the coving and then overboard then recove, tell them it a be a far better job. i know some lads use gripfill on parts which dont have fixings

thing is this was ment to be a quick fix job as the ceiling was ok but the old paper was coming away and wouldn't stick back up.. now ill have to add a hole day for me and a lab 2 find joist and over board! that's an extra £220 in labout plus materials.. hummm (yes i no at a push i could skim one)

the price to strip and skim was £240 all in (days work)

The thing is Oasis if you have told the guy that you are going to strip the ceiling and skim for a certain price but then find out it's more difficult than you though then that's down to you to swallow the extra, when pricing up jobs it's up to you to forsee any likely problems and price accordingly or set out very clearly in writing what is and what is not covered by the price.

oasis not bein funny but you should have enough experiance to know a job like that its basic plastering mate have a good look at the job an thinkit through

well just spoke to him.and 1 he tol me it was a plaster board ceiling and fort the paper should fall off. and it was a lath ceiling with heavy print paper with woodchip under it. but i told him that it will cost £55 in materials and £220 extra in labour but since iv done a few for him and its unplanned ill do the extra all in at £180 .. worked out OK i think.

to be fair i rarely ever strip paper from ceilings to skim and its always been ok. but now i no for next time again.
