what do other people use to do chases?ive always bond and skim,but thinking about using "one coat" just for a bit of speed...

I just do em in sand and cement as its cheaper.

No if its a whole house to do just do em in sand and cement then skim em the next day, but most of our work is total reskims so dont do much patching these days.

Plus if your doing external single skin walls you cant use gypsum based plasters even on chases.
