priced some artex ceilings tonight. to be told. the guy before was £100 cheaper and can do it tomorrow some so called plasterer has already coated half the ceiling with finish and made a rip roaring **** of it. and then left haha. the cheeky shite said. i will go with the guy £100 cheaper. but do you mind coming back when hes done to check if its ok standard. is this guy a dreamer pick one cowboy who left then choose the cheapest quote who can start tomorrow and ask me to check the work was this a piss take

Maybe the start of a new type of work for you? Instead of messing about spreading plaster, you could just go round and check the standard of other people's work. You could even set up a governing body like they have for gas or electrical work. :RpS_lol:
 
I had one ,lady found me on some forum, she had damp in two walls,first floor flat and perished plaster in another,I explained the cause and said poi tinting needed doing too ,so she got my price via text,then checked what was included,then asked re time I was available but never accepted thepriceor booked me in,then last Wednesday sent a text to see if I was available next week but added one wall had been done already and could I quote again allowing for this.i texted its to small and I am no longer interested unsettle same guy etc, she called,I ignored,she texted,"don't do this to me now etcetc," I texted back I will have a look at 4pm ,I went,theother spread was there,she told a story. Re how I was busy before and a friend recommended him but he was to busy to do all of it and he was starting a job really far away, I priced it at£600 then,heard nothing so texted her ifiwastosave a day.she finally replied using my texts to say it was my idea and that she agreed to use the same guy who now was available but could she keep my number for big jobs, I replied thati knew the guy would of been available and that I can't compete with DIY or handymen.

are you sure ? the guy has knocked your price back but then asks if you can come back and check its ok
 
i am positive he said
"the other guy can start tomorrow but if you are free wednesday could you swing by and check it. " i said so you take the cheaper quote and if i say its **** standard then what? he said you can have the job to re do it i said no thanks i will not fix it after a second so called plasterer has had a bash. the first guy spread half the kitchen ceiling and said his wife is not well and done a runner. you should see this kitchen. al cupboards covered in plaster washing machine fridge even the blinds customer is a dreamer

Tell him you will check it for £40 and just say it's sound :) happy days you got your fuel and an extra wry smile

If he wants you 2 check it he has already made his mind up that you are the better (professional)plasterer, leave him with your references and let him stew on it,when he comes to his scences and calls you back tell him your too busy.his loss :-)

Darren you should just have shown them the back of your van and told them that a real plasterer keeps his van spotless lol

I'd charge them a full day rate and write a report on it with pictures attached highlighting the rough(est) bits, and include an estimate for putting it right that's about three times what you'd normally charge.

I wouldn't tell them I was going to do that though. Id ask them to text or email the date when they want you to come round so that you have it in writing. Then reply "to confirm the appointment" do it, and hand them the bill. If they refused to pay I'd just fill in the form at https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/web/mcol/welcome and let the courts do the legwork to get my pay.

I don't mess customers about, and they rarely do me. On the odd occasion they do, I take pride in the fact that I'm far more vindictive than they are, and willing to put way more effort into it than they are. :RpS_laugh:
