work for a firm for about a year
they used to stop 2% citb out of your money
phoned citd up they had never heard of the firm
thats a robbing b%$£ard

Usual story I started a job aware of the rates but after a week I got told the retention was 5% not 2.5 plus 2.5 citb I didn't want to moan because I had nothing else on but where would I have stood after doing work if I said no I'm not paying it?

I think they call it a levy or something steve, so the construction trades are supporting apprenticeships

construction industry training board...
like the eitb - engineering industry training board...
i was under the eitb at aerospace as an apprentoid, went to college, filled in the books, never paid em a penny, in fact got a 28 quid a week yts from the goverment which BAe topped up to 50 quid... never paid any eitb contributions or citb contributions since though? not even in cards in jobs? new one on me....

i have made a disision not to work for any c**t that takes any retention or citb im not having it i will struggle on else where ripping myself off thank you. retention what a load of tosh plastering is either right or wrong when finished why the fcuk shud i wait 12 months to get fully paid, two weeks is even to long nevermind funding these twa ts

did used to pay a 2% retention on the windows years ago...

still, we were half p'ssed half the time and when it went quiet, you could drive 2 hours to toe and heel a door on day rate plus deisel and it got paid out the retention so no worries really...

i'v worked out how much i'v paid over 3 years subbin to the same company.

its about £3500 give or take a few quid, what have i got to show for it . . . . . . . F*** all.

i'v been asking to be put on a PASMA & IPAF course for 2 years so i can crack on with the high level skimming and tape and joint without standing around for 2 hours waiting for some clown (usually a dryliner) to set me a scaff up.

i was told when i questioned the payments a years or 2 ago, that i had to pay this by both Company and CITB, its the companies bill which i end up footing. its suppose to benefit me by sending me on such course's as above which will cost me nothing (except a days wages).

i may aswell have just paid to get these tickets myself sure i could have got both for under £400.00, and not pay the bloody CITB.

they dock 2% doesn't sound much but £20 off every £1000 for 3 years soon foookin adds up. the company also take it off the gross wage which surely is not right.

just gettin a little fooked off all in all i get about 28% docked from my wages each fourtnight, CITB, Insurance, Retention & Tax

plus the cost of fuel £80.00 per week!!!!!!! i may aswell stay in bed.

unless you want a very sore ass every payday people, stay the fook away from site work, its not worth a wank

well im going to look into it further, i'll get hold of the QS or MD but no doubt be told to like it or lump it.

its wrong, very wrong what they are doing and they know it both CITB & Company.

£3500 is a lot of money, a hell of a lot. it could have gone towards holidays/van/anything but yet its taken off you in the light of day.

what are the upsides to being self employed these days, no pension, no sick pay, no holiday pay, endless companies demanding money CSCS/CITB
