Gave a customer some advice black mould on chimney so I said it needs an air vent none in it at the mo
They then turned round to me instead of the bedroom havin it could it go on the same chimney in the loft space
I'm unsure on this one would it still work would the air flow be the same an stuff cheers

Was just goin to use the hit an miss love red vent the one you can open an shut
The chimney is just a normal 4 ft wide on a terrace house

If the condensation is on the surface of the chiminy venting the inside won't help. It's the room that needs venting.

The black mould is caused by the damp air condencing on the surface not coming through the brickwork.

It's the main bedroom so it is used windows open an shut other than that don't really know

You need to figure out why the chimney wall is colder than the rest of the room. It might be wet from external sources as well as the shagging, sweating, clothes-drying etc. that causes excess moisture in a room, coupled with no ventilation.
Check the capping, cowl etc. on the stack as that might be letting rainwater in. Also check the condition of the outside wall. Does it face the prevailing wind too? It will certainly require a vent in the breast in the room, but will need to be vented further up. i.e. on the top of the stack to draw the moist air away :RpS_thumbup:

I bet they've just got wet clothes on a maiden in there. She should get one of those wee dehumidifiers when she's drying her clothes
