Noticed daves got a nice little coving job lined up to sweeten the weekend up a bit...
just wondering what everyone does with the stuff ( basic 127 stuff, not fibrous, but feel free anyway)
i reckon ive got it off to an art these days, charge 80-100 per room inclusive, like to use a bit of packin in a mitre box to keep it square e.g. bit of 1/2"board and a glazing pack...
sometimes i use artex, sometimes cove adhesive (big bag stuff, not them shitty little things), sometimes wickes board adhesive (its white), pva walls with a gloss roller...
seen all kinds of methods used though...what about you lot? how do you deal with 45 corners, curved corners, gaps, joints etc

I do enjoy the coving mate, this is how i do it i cut two internal 45's with a metal wondermitre template,in my mind the best invention since sliced bread. These 2 45's about a metre in length i hold in place to where they should be in all for corners of the room and mark underneath with a pencil.I then chalk line right round the room,This way every corner fits lovely(unless the corners of the room are out).I stick it up with artex i know you shouldn't but i've never had any come down, not only that the cove adhesive goes off in the bucket and needs to be knocked up in a spotless bucket or it goes lumpy. With the artex you can knock up all you want and thats it.Once the cove is up i scrape off the excess and and wash cove ceiling and wall with wet sponge or splash brush.

when i have coving jobs i cut it free hand, use a large baton, ceilling side down and cut 3 3/8ths longer or shorter depending on whether its internal or external angle, give it a very quick rub with fine sanding paper to get shitty bits of paper off, i prep the wall, new plaster by scoring along ceilling and wall like / / / / / / / / if you know what i mean inside the chalk line.
i also use water proof tile adhesive to stick it up with (dont know why its just what my old gaffer swore by so i carried the tradition on)
soon as a piece goes up scrape excess adhevsise off with a small tool, good little brush and use boiling hot water which helps again to remove the adhesive.
once its all up, then and then only mix a bit of cove adhesive up and go around filling any gaps to make it neat and tidy, again brushing any excess away with hot water. use the small tool to finish of with as a pet hate of mine is leaving brush marks.
another tip is just to bang a few 2-3 inch nail in to hold your cove up when it goes up for first time, the holes left can be filled later with cove adhesive.
and that ladies is how i cove.

instead of butting my joints up along the wall i splice them like the chippys do with skirting board .. if you splice them away from the point of entry of the room they become invisible

have done coving on site for years best mitre box bg make a box for there cove this also fits lafarge 120mm the box is spot on always use cove addessive artex does not always work board addessive is ok but a bit gritty and sets fast wondertex cove addessive is usable for about 3 hours but i always pva with it
