Cutting a 300mm hole in lath and plaster ceiling?

I have to fit a condensation control fan (PIV) into the hall ceiling. The hole needs to be about 300mm and the ceiling is lath and plaster!

Any tips for cutting the ceiling without damaging the surrounding lath and plaster?
Cheers

Cheers. I was thinking of a pad saw with a fine blade or a Dremel Spiral Cutting Bit.
Checked above and moved insulation and cables, so nice and clear.
Thanks for suggestions.
I may be back looking for a plasterer to overboard and skim :D

Hole cutting saw and as little pressure as possible. Still gonna be dicey though. Let us know how you get on.

Mark the outline, cut the lime plaster through with a blade until you feel the laths, remove the plaster. You should be left with a round porthole showing the lath, cut each one with a sharp padsaw whilst holding it to stop shuddering etc dislodging more plaster. Ta dah.

I would take a section of the ceiling out spanning one joist to the next which will be about 450mm fit some dwangs between the joists, screw up a bit plasterboard then cut your hole out the board.

As Cornelius have said. Anything else will make you cutting more and more. New metal blade and multitool is your friend.

Ya can buy a multi tool from hombase for 20 quid and I assure you it will be a lot cheaper than an over board and skim.

Cheers, I will take the multi tool as well. It will be the full arsenal of specialist tools.
I will report back tomorrow!

All done :). The multitool was great. Actually once I started it was easy as the ceiling had been overboarded so the laths and their plaster were all contained. So no need to worry.
Cheers for all the advice it was very helpful.
