can't believe you guys would dab on to an original plaster wall!!!!!
Never done it, can't say I ever would.
Have heard of cutting pockets out of an original plastered wall back to the brick and dabbing the majority back to the brick, but not on to the plaster itself????
Oh well... Leanr something new every day!

i'm guessing the solid render means its on brickwork mate. else the whole wall would be lath and plaster

Because you can never be sure the substrate is sound or will remain sound in the future and as far as i know there is nothing available to seal it with other than products that will prevent the wall from breathing possibly causing problems.

bg used to do a system for this problem it was an adhesive in tubs small bands dabbed on the push board tight then a fixing drilled in dont know if its still on market

I agree. Hack off and start again.
Can someone give me an example of when they'd dabb on to a plastered surface please?
It's either a hack off and re-do or a reskim in my book.
Still trying to get my head around this one.
