dabs to a board

just wondered how many dabs you lot use to one 8x4? the bloke i work with used to use 5 rows of 4 but i've managed to persuade him to do 6 rows of 4 now as i thought the gaps between dabs were too big. you get 2 boards per bag, but surely its better to have too many that not enough. just had a quick look on the BG website and they do 3 continuous bands vertically then fill in the skirting and ceiling lines. opinions please?
 
Yea i use 5 rows of 4 on 8-4 board but also put on a beading of adhesive around the edges of where sockets will be lights and that.
 
i put extra on angles and around sockets etc, and also if units are going to be fitted, but i just feel 5 rows isnt enough. i'd rather buy a couple of more bags of adhesive and be sure.
 
i do 4 across the top solid bottom and 3 across the middle .....i skip a block and dab skip a block dab ......that made no sense at all did it

that way youve got no more than about 8inches square with no adhesive
 
I picture frame mine, solid dab around the perimeter and a solid vertical dab down the middle. Also dab the sockets and up any angles so I can nail the beads.
 
i dot 4 across and 6 high put extra around the socket and the bottom set of dab i go all the way across so joiner got something to nail to

same as me then mac, i put the bottom row horizontal so its a continuous line, all good then.
 
Yeah bg recons about the same but i was always told 3 boards a bag i know lafarge you get a bit more than bg's, plus it dont smell half as bad :D
 
knauf do the best adhesive, it mixes up in seconds, no lumps and doesnt smell vile. i think wickes is the same stuff.
 
I get 2, solid dabs to bottom then four rows like everyone else, if you stretch the gear too much you end up having the sockets protuding the board.
 
Completley boarded and skimmed a socket box over the other day,electricians came back to put the faces on the boxes 2 days later claimed to the customer they had left a socket for his lcd telly and it had been covered up.
Your not makin holes in the wall now why dont you juice it up and find the offending socket,oh wrer not doin that.

on one of the sites we work on, the electritian has got a vendetta against us for some reason so he leaves a foot of wire hanging out of every box, what he doesnt realise is its easier for me to cut them so they're 3 inches long and completely fill his box, than it is for him to have to cut out an entire box, and then struggle his nuts off to wire a socket with such a short wire. oh well.
 
have any of you seen them plastic inserts for sockets and switches they go between the backbox and the socket or switch to protect you from shocks they are the nuts

yeh they had them when i was refurbing kitchens earlier in the year very good.

was ona site once and the sparky's thought it would be funny to mix some Micky pins in our finish,they did'nt look so smug when we cut their wires and float and set the walls ;D have you ever seen 10 sparky's rushing around with mutli meters trying to trace cables!!!!! serve the f**k**s right ;D ;D ;D
