Hi everyone hope you can help I brought a house recently had it refurbished took back to brick and replastered but I have noticed this on one wall.. it’s not wet to touch but it’s growing up the wall been told conflicting things.. could be grease and a stain block will solve or that it’s rising damp... it’s been a year since it was plastered...any help would be appreciated thank you in advance

Grease??? WTF?

no idea.. they said it could be a reaction to new plaster and then like the skirting board being stuck on top, or the sealant? It’s similar around where the window trims have been stuck on but it hasn’t grown there like it has here ‍♀️ Hence paint over with stain block and see if it stops it ‍♀️

Not grease definitely water.

Where in the house is it? And as chrispy said what’s on the other side?

It’s in the middle of the house on an internal wall, the picture side is my front room and behind it is the kitchen and the kitchen wall is just tile and cupboards. I’ve noticed the start of what looks like the same thing on another internal wall, still the front room but between the front room and the hallway it’s so strange no signs of water leak anywhere it’s not wet xx

Damp is weird and not always straightforward. You’re going to get conflicting opinions and they may all be justified. It may be a case of trying a few things to solve it.

I wonder if you have ground water under the house maybe. Just a thought. Has it been slowly getting bigger or have you noticed it more when it rains? You could draw a pencil line to track it. I’m literally thinking out loud.

Try get a good recommendation for someone to take a look and investigate.

1st thought = pipe leaking
If you say It’s same around window reveals then second thought = water ingress
Is it waxing and waning in tandem with the rain?

You still have time to delete this one, quickly!
