Danny's Ill in Asia Again

Hello All,
I'm just posting on here to let you all know that Danny has fallen ill again while we are away. He went in to hospital on Sunday evening with what we thought was severe food poisoning. The docs are not too sure of this now and are doing blood tests for tropical diseases. They think it may be a mild case of Dhengi Fever but we won't know till the results come back tonight.
Although we're in Vietnam where our hotel room is cleaner than the hospital - we have an English speaking Doctor and he is doing everything he can to help Dan out.
Hopefully he'll be out soon enough and can update you himself on his condition.
Until then, I just wanted to keep you all informed.
Jane

Not having much luck on these travels is he. Pass on my best wishes and i hope he gets better soon

tell him everythings fine in forum land, pauls flown out to gambia so if you need a sub, give him a bell.. he said he'll bring curry too.. and tell him Dengue fever (pronounced UK: /ˈdɛŋɡeɪ/, US: /ˈdɛŋɡiː/) and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) are acute febrile diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, which occur in the tropics, can be life-threatening, and are caused by four closely related virus serotypes of the genus Flavivirus, family Flaviviridae.[1] It is also known as breakbone fever, since it can be extremely painful. Unlike malaria, dengue is just as prevalent in the urban districts of its range as in rural areas. Each serotype is sufficiently different that there is no cross-protection and epidemics caused by multiple serotypes (hyperendemicity) can occur. Dengue is transmitted to humans by the Aedes (Stegomyia) aegypti or more rarely the Aedes albopictus mosquito. The mosquitoes that spread dengue usually bite at dusk and dawn but may bite at any time during the day, especially indoors, in shady areas, or when the weather is cloudy.[2]

The WHO says some 2.5 billion people, two fifths of the world's population, are now at risk from dengue and estimates that there may be 50 million cases of dengue infection worldwide every year. The disease is now endemic in more than 100 countries.[3]

to get some insect repellant!!! ::)

hope you up and in the pub soon mate ;)

my mate experienced dengue in thailand. He came back here in the end, lost a helluva lot of weight. didn't even recognise him when i saw him. Needless to say he's fully back to normal now, but it's a really serious condition.

Good luck and hang in there Danny :)

I have no idea what it is i'm afraid, it automatically logs in for me on his laptop!

He is being taken to Bangkok today by air ambulance to receive better treatment from better english speaking doctors. Also it is easier for his parents to fly to thailand than Vietnam, so they can be with him :-)
I'll try and keep you posted :-)
