I take it day work joints are used when you need to split up a large area, and a upvc movement/expansion bead can be used?...i've seen some properties split vertically...some horizontally...is this just personal preference? or should they be run a certain way? and most i've seen are white...thought they could be painted?

cheers

Hi FreeD, you get the jist of the forum yeah??? Here you go - Day joint is the name given to a jiont to break an are into a smaller managable size but it prob aint anything to do with joints you have seen before ie. most buildings have expansion joints vertically or horizontally and you have to mirror these joints through and incorporate them into your render or whatever, also depending on the system or product or substrate you are using the spec may require an expansion break or stop joint either horizontally or vertically and you will also sometimes find horizontal joints at floorzone level of multi storey buildings if the engineer requsts one it will allow for movement between floors if there is a high deflection. Hope this helps. See nothing in there about smokin joints all day at work.

thanks plasterjfe makes a change to have someone posting something that actually makes sense around here...so basically these beads that can be used for expansion can also be used as a joint to split up large areas into smaller more manageable areas...I guess it is just personal preference as to which way you run them then?

2.5 metres long...plenty to share ;)

for a day joint you can use expansion beads. I normally cut a groove to work into if a day joint is requested but I must admit I never use day joints unless specified, better to get more men on the elevation to handle it but this would be when using textured top coats mainly if its just a straight wet render you shouldnt need a break.
