Direct skim over artex ceiling and bedroom walls - acceptable quality standards?

Hi all,

We moved into a 1940s house 3 months ago and wanted to get rid of artex ceilings - we opted for direct skim over. We also decided to remove lining paper from walls and skim over those to even out, ready to paint. Total cost was around £3k.

We have now applied 1x mist coat, sanding, first coat, sand, second coat (Matt).

I wanted to ask, based on the photos, is this an acceptable standard of skimming/quality of work, where you can see trowel marks / tiger stripes (I presume they are one of the two)? Or is this a pretty decent job and I'm just being overly picky and it doesn't really get much better than this, unless you pay £££.

Grateful for thoughts and advice - I've definitely seen a lot worse photos online re skim coats, or worse, distemper.

Thanks.

Definitely not bad for what you paid. That must have been the cheapest quote you got by far.
Thanks, is a skim layer supposed to NOT have those lines? There's a few of those in every wall, but you have to shine light at angles to see it.

Also apologies, just double checked and we paid £4500 in total.

Do you still reckon it's acceptable quality of work for that price, and should it have been a better finish? Is this an example of the plasterer getting lazy?

Been trying to find examples of what a good skim looks like, keep finding the horror stories online, which this is nowhere near (so at least glad about that).

We just want to know if we should dispute it with the plasterer (we paid him already) but he is coming back to fix some of the spots that appeared post painting downstairs, which only have a mist coat on.

Thanks.

For what you paid not bad if your shining lights on walls and ceilings at angles it will show up discrepancies you wouldn’t see in normal daylight or with a light switched on,your best just showing the plasterer the bits your unhappy with across the board and see if he can rectify them
