Did a repair on landing ceiling Friday. 1930s house . Ended up striping all the paint off entire lid .came off clean . Easy. Back to original plaster. It’s dusty n dry so I told customer I’ll put watered down pva on it .there painter has told them that’s no good . Needs washing down and sum zinger stuff. And paint . I’m not bothered as they don’t want to pay to skim it . Just wanted your opinions. My solution to every problem is pva and more pva . I’m thinking about putting it in my tea to help my back problems. :coffee:

I scratch up then use zinsser gardz. To scratch I run my grinder through a wood saw to make 2 scratchering blades. Bit dusty but quick to scratch surface through to the background for a good key

Wayne's you do some mad prep, not taking the piss really respect the effort

If I was plastering over it..stabiliser first....
If it's a job for the painter, let him deal with his own prep.

Horrible orrible miserable s**t ......plasterers worse nightmare.
My kids picked the skim back off the walls lol....I had to learn patience and wash and key it right.....then re do it.
Little fuuckers.

I mean once its washed and primed (pva'd) with zinger stuff ?
I coat with gardz. Let it dry off then Pva. I have gone on the gardz with no Pva though as it seals well. I know I guy that just uses Pva but he uses the good stuff on distemper. Unibond super Pva in red container. Anyone use that?

Jumping on an old thread. I thought customer was washing down walls and removing all the distemper but he's read up and been advised to use this. So the walls are now coated in it. Question is as it's water resistant is it ok to PVA and skim over? Bit hesitant

I’d use a grit over that

Pva wait until tacky then skim.. If in a rush take a fan as air movement will dry Pva faster.. One coat of gardz will seal but not as good as maybe you think. Two coats of gardz seal really well. I've skimmed over gardz but will still pull the moisture out the plaster to quickly so I think you should Pva..

Going to go with your advice as I was leaning towards thinking the same. Cheers
