Morning chaps,

Got a small patch job tomorrow - 6 foot vertical crack (only about 5mm wide) on an external wall (Painted plain face render finish)

Was just going to get the angle grinder out, rake it out to about 9 inches wide and 1 inch deep and then fill with S&C, rub up and jobs a good 'un

Should I pop some EML in the crack before hand or should it all hold together cos its such a small area ?

Cheers, Phil

the eml wont be effective like that mate it needs to be fixed across the crack not just stuffed in it.

Best thing as you said is to rake out and fill with s/c and rub up to match existing .

How much did you charge for the job ?? its one of those that i would struggle to price as its so small !!??.

Rich

Thanks Richard - I thought as much - As for pricing, I did a lot of work for this chap last summer, during which time he gave me a Bang & Olufson Record player - 20 years old but still looks as sharp as a button and I've now got somethnig to play all my 80's LPs on - As payment, he said could I sort out the crack in his front wall so I said of course - Forgot all about it till he called it in last week !!

Whats fast set Spunky - Is it that already mixed stuff ? Or is it a proper external filler ?? And where can I get it ??

Cheers guys

I think you should fix some eml in the patch and do it two coat, painy some sbr slurry onthe sides of the existing render before you scratch it and again when you top coat , i know its only a little job but best do it right

That's what i meant mate , cut out a 9 inch chase then cut the eml to fit in the chase bridging the crack fixing either side, don't think i explained it to well the first time

fast sets filler mate you can use external filler not sure what the difference would be though?.........tbh in my opinion this crack could be serious structural flaws........is the inside hardwall??

Cheers for all your replies guys - I think I'm gonna go down the exterior filler route - The guy knows its only going to be a patch job and he's quite happy with that - As for structural flaw, the whole house is on the move and there are other various cracks its just that this particular one is on the front flank so you see it as you come in the drive
