Plaster full time for a living that is.........

Had a lid lined up today. Nice easy job 14m ceiling overskim Quoted anf got it at a good price. Called women last nite to confirm "yeah c u at 9 am tommorow".

Bought the mats and headed off today. Women answers door "did u not get my text, my husband went into hospital so cant do it today mate- will call you to re book" :RpS_angry: shuts door.

So rather than waste a day quoted another job on way home. I was the last of three quotes and all the lads had quoted high :RpS_thumbup: so i cut £10 off the lowest quote (which was still high) and got a start date for Fri. Good price and one easy days work.
:RpS_thumbup:
Women calls me tonite and says "i will have to cancel you mate, we have scraped the artex on the ceiling and some soft $%$% has artexed over wallpaper. We have pulled off loads of the wallpaper and the ceiling underneath looks fine. We will just use pollyfilla to repair it and hangs up.

WHat a shite day

You sure are quoting a lot of jobs for someone who only helps his mate now and then. AND undercutting because its not you're main job aswell...And before you start I haven't got a problem with you, just what you're doing. Its wrong and one of if not the main reason this trade is hanging out of its arse. You say 'don't know how you lot do this all day' the simple answer is a lot of the lads don't do it all day everyday because they can't get the jobs in. You are lucky enough not to have to rely on plastering as you're main job, the other lads you undercut probably do. Just think about the bigger picture pal

Yer I have had that a few times windy , van full of gear turn up and get a lame excuse at the door , some folk do not have the balls to say no to you at the time.

Beddy i totaly agree but at the moment there is plenty of money to be earnt, one it has to be domestic, two you must be multitrade and three you got to be fcuking good at what you do.

Look lads if u decide to change jobs and go say to the job centre. You go the interview and You get a new job say as a postman. Do you have to feel guilty about all the unemplyed postmen sat on the dole and feel guilty about taking the wage that by right should be theirs?? No you dont you do the job and take the wage end off.

And how many of you "fulltime spreads" do tiling, basic plumbing, joinery fit kitchens etc? Do you feel guilty about taking that wage from another tradesmen? Honestly?

Rant over

How do u know i plaster for a hobby ? Do you know my exact financial circumstances? My commitments? My income ?

Anyone who would plaster as a "hobby" needs certyfying

All I'm saying is not too long ago when we were talking about fireman etc you were saying how you thought it was wrong that they take the work etc and that you only do it in your own rentals...bit different now eh?

Not at all. I did get into plastering on my rentals but i only own 3 of them so im hardly donald trump :flapper:

After 4/5 yrs of plastering i have decided i am able to do SOME domestic stuff and i aim to do it 2 odd days a week. I DO NOT charge £70 a day so its not like im after beer money.

In fact maybe im chargin too much and thats why i got sent packing at todays job LOL

Plastering and some painting for me. All domestic. I never leave a job without the customer being less than happy. It's the ONLY way to get word of mouth these days. You must be very good nowadays to attract more work.......average, no longer cuts it.

Truth is i actually like plastering. I admired the skill from the first day i picked up a trowel. I remember walking round the building college in Liverpool 5 yrs ago thinking this is really cool looking at all the students work (and they would only have been 17 yr old lads) I like making something bad look great. Seeing the customers face when there happy. I get a sense of satisfaction from the job so if that makes me a bad man so be it

Yep. there's no denying there's a feeling of satisfaction from transforming a ceiling or a room or a house. I'm glad i can plaster to good standard and it's nice when customers praise your work. It makes the job worthwhile.

Correctomundo Casper that is the only way to make money at the mo, keep the standards high and when it does come back you will be in front

thats what rich said when they kicked the toilet door in and found him standing in a plastic bag doing a punter up the arse

We had some lads turn up on our site with ******* everything on thier van fair play they were slow s**t and spent most of today hitting beads off so they can put there work right tomorrow bless em ******* idiots

Lol Scott was scrapping the floor today and he knocked a bead off just as he had finished the set all I could hear was profanity's coming from the room made me chuckle.

Absolute tops 30-40m between three of them I looked out when they were outside and one of the lads was holding a level against a bead and his mate was trying to shave it back with a Stanley knife to get it straight lmfao

Oh well, just one of those things on the first one.
The second one, when a client tells you the price that previous plasterers have just quoted, she is going to turn out to be a complete and utter t&%t, I effin hate that!!

How the fu@k can they make a pay of it spunk and shaving a bead with a stanley knife how was they doing that

windy don't think you do yourself any favours by saying you lot!also saying I only own 3 rentals!but even if you owned 10its pretty obvious that you enjoy plastering and why not.by the looks at your photos you know the score.don't be paranoid we all enjoy plastering its a ART when done correctly!!!

Rock all the beads were terrible they did a bit of top coating today they filled the bell cast bead they hacked off with stiff conni two blokes were using emir floats and one block was using a bucket trowel to rub it up

You could,nt make this sh**t up !! :RpS_lol:. I took on a guy once who sounded the nuts, 30 years in the trade ...blah blah..render...blah....cornice...blah ...this job ...blah..that job...blah...what he had not f****ing done, was,nt worth a mention. He got it on the alright..just did'nt have a clue what to do with it once it was on there. Bloody mess everywhere. Told him to go after 1 hour. He was not happy,,and left and I quote him driving off " its your loss mate " .........Wa*****er

Apologies if i came across funny. When i said u lot i meant "full time spreads" and i dont include myself in that bracket because if im being honest i cud not earn a full time living from this job. I still have too much to learn to go at it full time,
