I have always used a claw hammer for the last 20 years but have found on occasion the i could have done with a lath hammer i have never had one, the thing is weight you can get an 11oz or 14oz which would you boys say is best, i prefer 16oz claws.

I have allways carried a estwing drywall not sure what weight it was tho, anyway i lost it a couple of years ago and bought a magnesson one from B&Q not a lot of difference apart from the price ;).

I always use a proper lath hammer, they have a better blade for removing the occasional :o brickies snot and the head is smaller making fixing beads to narrow angles on external renders easier and to cap it all they're cheaper as well.

used to have an estwing shuttering hammer..
dunno why theyre called a shuttering hammer but it had the long almost straight claw.. 18" long too... 20oz
great for ripping out cos you use it like a crowbar
split wedges with it..
knock snots off with it..
even pulls nails out ;D

sick of losing good tools to thieves, carelessness, 'business partners' and the 'bermuda triangle' so these days its a scabbly old fibreglass shafted thing covered in plaster of all descriptions that i only seem to use to knock the crap off the wisk and the odd nail here and there... lives in the van somewhere.. i call it 'the fixing tool' ;)

Still got an Estwing dry wall hammer never used it for years i thought every thing had to be screwed nowadays, dont know just thought that was the spec nowadays.

Nail a pb ceiling up the other day cos bot batts on the makita were flat , but yep Estwing all the way, great for cutting cables back that project too far from a socket or mains board :D :D ;)

like i said, not fussy, what or whoevers hammer is nearest to me ;D ;D, i love picking up a chippys saw and start cutting board with it.
