Have you ever seriously under priced a job ???

I have I priced the job when the scaffold was down and now its up and i am sinking my fangs into it its a right nightmare and much more time consuming that i thought.

I'm gutted and have no interest in it but have to finish it :(

lol yep I underpriced a fair few jobs.... in fact every one I have done this year was a little cheap...

But still day money was made, just!

Danny

Well with the smashed window..... broken sky cables and now I have found all the guttering is full of rubble I have had enough. I priced it at £4740 for 100m2 hack off and re render but its an old awkward house and needs 4 coats of render .

all the access is wrong etc etc.

Cu.nts lol

Still on the bright side the Mrs is having twins , im living the dream i should be happier really ,instead i seem to be a right miserable sod .

hey rich, the only way to get experience is by doing the job. Ok this time you didnt make money but next time you wont make the same mistake and that is all there is to being experienced brother

It so easy to under price (domestic) or take too low a price pm2 (commercial).
On both the unforeseen is what gets you.
Whether it's other trades in the way,s**t everywhere or areas not ready for you,or issues as you've raised.
I've been in this game since 89 yet i've f**k*d my self or been f**k*d on most jobs this year commercial and domestic.
I go for what i think is fair for both parties and if it goes to s**t i grin and bare it,though i feel like walking.
Also i point out things i believe maybe issues on quoting so if they do come up i can charge for them.

i can beat that did a cellar conversion about three year ago.
22 thousand basic figure for watertight only. not including services, woodwork second fix etc
ill just list problems
-second day one of lads cracked a old stone widow head with micro digger whilst digging out ,cost 150 for a new reclaimed head plus a full day 3 lads to accrow and replace.
-had a belle mixer nicked, plus various scaffold poles that wernt mine
-had a massive dispute with client over list for extras do to under pinning of a wall,in the early stages, met them half way but still cost me over 800 quid
-plasterer that worked for me on books slipped on site, twisted his ankle, out of action for weeks.
-used a lot more materials than i allowed, job in general took a week longer than i estimated.
and to finish off backed into a skip that was on site,350 quid worth of damage to van.
ive had better jobs

Yeah I had to do some patching for that kitchen company the other day I was there till nearly 11 o clock in the morning and I used nearly a quarter of a bag of skim too........................ £150 for that.

I knew I should have said £160.

They were charging 9 grand to take the old kitchen out, fix the under floor heating, re-tile the floor and put the old kitchen back in!

nine f*ckin grand!

earlier this year i pretty much worked a month for free due to underpricing (no contingency and other trades fcuking me about)

gotta bite the bullet and keep your reputation, gutty though ain't it?

Rich please dont tell me it's that job in Stoke village I sent your way??

No mate lol I blew him out the water .... i have never met in all my life someone with as little common sense as that bloke. When I went out to se him he was trying to drill in to a stone wall using a metal drill bit and a black and decker drill driver with no hammer action ... he was complaining how hard the stone was and how he had gone through so many bits... I told him he needed a hammer drill and masony bits and he looked at me like i was an alien.

We all get em from time to time rich we just finished a job and we priced it for £7500 and the bloke knocked us down to £6000 in the pretence that if we went over the alloted time he would sort us out which it did and he never he is still holding back £500 for a doorway wall as the front door aint fitted yet, i walked off the job after 2 weeks left my partner to do it as i knew we were on a loser.

The problem is mate you end up taking it home with you and you end up narked about the job and your not yourself
until it;s off your back.
Thats the life sometimes.

every job i do is underpriced :'(

the market is the market.

But I have never really left myself up the sh1tter without a paddle. mostly firms dont pay in full so end up short that way :'(

First job I done, well underpriced it. 1 box room, landing and hallway. £450 plus mats. Paid my mate £150 for one day, brother in for two days £100. I earnt £200 for 5 days. I originaly thought 2 days. To make matters worse someone hit my car, causing £150 damage. Was a favour for friends. After fuel worked out about £10 a day. Luckily I was still earning from my paper round

do you find it awkward at the beginning when you get asked to do small extras and think shall i do them for nothing when you should be charging safe in the knowledge theyll just find some cleaning charges etc to fire back at you

Only extras I do for nothing is if it's in the same room. If it's "upstairs/outside/in basement/next door or on chimney stack" (yes - one guy asked me- cheeky c*nt) it's like you said - an EXTRA ......££££££££ ;D
I f*ckin hate that question, "While you're here..........."
