External Arch Beads?

use hardboard, measure the width of the arch, + coverage for both sides, say 10mill each side. do the faces first, then remove the hardboard, then do the underside, this will give you 2 hard edges to work too, if it makes any sense. :)

also i meant to say formers not beads. like i said i may have an arch to work off or i may have to re create one..

had to do a job on tatton park flower show about 3 yrs ago where the walls looking from the side went up and down in a series of arches getting tighter and tighter the walls had to be renderd all round and there wasnt time to build a former so i used plastic render stop beads with the arris facing up on top of the wall but overhanging the face by 12mm it was a t**t to do and there used to be pictures on rhs website and uk spreads, it worked but we only had two days to do the job and we kind of made it up after askin the same question, it would of been better if we had the beeds so there was only the upstand on the arris, does that make sense

yea del it is i memeer you saying abot the hardboard.. sounds a good way to go about it but i dnt no how to fix it there? also i fort with a former i could put it round the old brick work and the arch would come with the bead already? I'm doing it Friday.! very cheap they no I'm learning the outside game.

lost me at flower show mate

yes but it was that or freehand or whatever and tthese garden designers or s**t payers when they dont get the medal they want / deserve

To fix the hardboard up use masonry nails 35mm, Pre nail the hardboard on the drive, down the centre, say every 4 inches, then the same down the edges. This will stop the nails bouncing off the board while trying to fix it in to position. do not bang the nails all the way in, especially if you have nails down the edges, taking the nails out may break the edge away. Is this a semi circle arch with two piers opposite, meaning 4 angle beads to go up ?

that's rite del. so im trying to fix the hardboard tight to the brickwork arch?sorry trying to get me head around it..im going to take pics and put um on here as i go

Right we are on the same page then, :) stick angle beads on the first pier, make sure the first bead is level. If the first bead is spot on, this makes the bead next to it on the same pier easier to put up. repeat on the oppisite pier. cut all beads short of the curve of the brick work, meaning where the bricks start to go vertical cut 6 inches below the curve. The board makes the gap up, giving the arch a nice curve without the kink where the board meets the bead. If you can hang on 10 min i will post some pics to show you the set up.

oasis, can't copy and paste the picture, will try and find out how you do it, normally works :-\ speak tomorrow

OK nice 1 thanks for tryin! not get ta bed!I take it im going to try and fit the board to the centre of the brickwork arch.. surly the under side will only be left with a thin layer 2 apply?

yeh, the underside, cut some packers out of the board, and place them evenly around the board, but tucked in from the edges, this will drop the arch say 5 mill or 2 packers deep 10 mill. This gap gives you something to fill to, to create a firm edge for the underside. If you dont cut the packers short of the edge, when you take them out you risk breaking the edge, being too close, if you know what i mean. Forgot to mention, once the angle beads are up, you should have the same margin/width on both piers. This measurement is the width you cut the hardboard. Also its not a 5 minute job to set it up, but once it is it's easy.

erm why dont you use plastic roughing beads a v cut one side piece of urine
Good idea, never seen plastic roughing beads before, been out the uk too long. Might try and get some shipped to lanzarote, like the idea, less hassle. Will the beads kink though if it's a tight curve on a door?

They are available, I stumbled across them on the web a while ago but I can't remember the manufacturer :-[
Get of the forum and do a search Oasis.

all good thanks to del for the time to help with your advice i managed to get a plasterer to help me with the set up for half a days wage.. worth paying to learn in my case
