I've been asked to screed a pathway for somebody in preparationfor victorian tiles to be laid by a tiler. Never screeded outside so not 100% sure if it will lead to later problems. Old tiles have been cleared and pathway has been hardcored. Usually we scread onto concrete and not hardcore. Any advice?

did front path on my house same as internal screed 6 yrs ago, no problems yet....

just get the size and hight get some wood for sides peg them in. And sharp sand (4/1 mix wet) or ballest wet the sub base but tamp in down first. Start filling it in with the mix use a pice of 2*4 as a tamper resting on the sides shovel it in push it in the sides.
So the level is just over the hight of the shutering then start tamping it with the 2*4 on its side go back over it agen filling dips. And in a sweeping action pushing the 2*4 side to side while pulling it towards you. But not too wet mix it will just slump on the border of wet and stiff.
try useing mould oil paint it on the wood sides help too realease it when its dry
;)

I screeded the outside of a lifeboat station, I found it best to measure the area inc depth, call a company that will bring the screed to you. 1: the mix should be bang on.
2: They'll send you how much you need.
and 3: if it goes wrong you can get back to the suppling company.
it may cost a bit more but if the customer is paying a lot of money to have tiles laid , she should have no problem in paying a higher price to have the job done properly and proberly a lot quicker. plus your not humping barrow loads of sand and cement to the mixer ;)
