Been thinking about putting in a false floor in the van about 12" high so i can put boards and beads in the van and store them there when not needed.
Obv iously it would need to be reinforced to carry the weight of materials and tools on top.
Any of you guys done this with sucsess ???

beads fair enough but boards weigh something and its only extra fuel.. ive usually got a couple of offcuts for little patches or the old chimney breast fireplace hole but thats it..

Storage is becoming a real issue for me mate.I got so much kit and i cant keep it all on the van and becuyse of this the boards keep getting damaged.
I seen a window fitter the other day had his plastic and beads all under neath a false floor.
It was poorly built but did the job, im sure i could weld some steel across and sheet it out with wood and have a good solid floor.I got semi high roof van so a foot of height loss is no issue to me.
It would be permanent so would i regret it ~???

I built one for my Vito, made the flat bed of the false floor come level with the boxes on the wheel arches this gives a nice flat area. Under the false floor it is split into three levels and five rows, the sections are of varying sizes some for full boxes of the more commonly used beads and some narrower for the less often used beads(I usually carry six to eight types of bead), I also carry my feather edges under the floor to stop them getting bent. I also think it's a good idea to keep any electrical goods under the floor so that any thieving scumbag looking through the windows can't see them. The Vito doesn't have a huge payload so have never carried loads of weight on the top but in my last van I carried just short of a ton of multi on it's false floor.

skimmin dont you do a bit of everything?
couple of years ago i was doing the lot, had the old lwb tranny then, racked out like a window fitter van, just uprights and shelves down the long side..
work it just right and you can still swing a ton bag of sand in off the forklift down the merchants...
stand all panel material up the rack, drill a row of holes in the floor, have 2 2x2 poles nearly van height with 2 big screws driven in the bottom so they poke out about 1/2"..
locate these screws in the appropriate floor hole and tie em off to the rack at the top, use sponges as packers when transporting glass etc... dead secure and you can still sling bagged material on the floor.. wacker, mixer whatever..

what about a false ceiling, slide the boards on top, and some nice spot lights below so you can see ya tools at night if ya working late :)

The false floor could hide a multitude of things. If you keep some lime down there as well, the corpses won't smell and the cops won't suspect a thing..... :o
